III. TARGET STRENGTH FOR MIX PROPORTION :
Target mean strength of concrete,
From MORTH 1700 Clause 1704.2.1,
The target mean strength = 58 N /mm2 (MORTH 1700, Table 1700-5)
IV. SELECTION OF WATER CEMENT RATIO :
1. Max. Water-Cement Ratio (For very severe conditions) = 0.40 (from MORTH 1700 table 1700-2)
2. Water Cement ratio (adopted) = 0.325
3. Max. Cement Content (adopted) = 450 Kg
V. SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT :
For 20 mm maximum Nominal Size Aggregate
Maximum Water content = 186.0 kg
Reducing water content due to use of plasticizer by 21.37 % = 146.25Kg
VI. DETERMINATION OF CEMENT CONTENT
Water/Cement ratio (W/C) = 0.356
Cement = 146.25/0.325 = 450.0 Kg
VII. DETERMINATION OF VOLUME OF SUPERPLASTICIZER
Based on trial data, the water content reduction of 21.37 % is considered while using superplasticizers
@ 1.5 % by weight of cement.
Mass of superplasticizer (@1.5% of mass of Cement) = 6.75ltr
Volume of superplasticizer = 6.75/1.145 x 1/1000
= 0.006 m3
VIII. PROPORTIONING OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT
Volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm nominal Size and fine aggregate conforming to Zone II
and for water cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.62
Volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to decreased fine aggregate content. The proportion
of volume of coarse aggregate is increased by 0.02 (at the rate of -/+ 0.01 for every + 0.05 change in w/c
ratio)
As w/c ratio is lower by (0.50 – 0.325) = 0.62+0.175/0.05 x 0.01 = 0.665
Thus Volume of Fine Aggregate Content = 1 – 0.665 = 0.335
IX. MIX CALCULATIONS
1. Volume of Concrete = 1m3
2. Volume of Cement =450/3.15 x 1/1000
= 0.143m3
3. Volume of Water = 146.3/1000
= 0.146 m3
4. Mass of super plasticizer
(@1.5% of mass of Cement) = 6.75 ltr
5. Volume of super plasticizer = 6.75/1.145 x 1/1000
= 0.006 m3
6. Volume of All in Aggregate = 1 – 0.143-0.146 – 0.006
= 0.705 m3
7. Mass of Coarse Aggregate = 0.705 x 0.665 x 2.68 x 1000
= 1256.4kg
8. Mass of Fine Aggregate = 0.705 x 0.335 x 2.70 x 1000
= 637.7 kg
