GENERAL
The S.C.7 is a hand charged and hand released spring closing mechanism. The mechanism is completely
trip free in any position of the closing stroke of the circuit-breaker.
After closing the circuit-breaker the mechanismmay be re-charged in readinessfor further operation ;
or for a single auto re-close operation a remote release mechanismcan be supplied to provide this facility.
Tripping is effected by means of a mechanicalpush button or electrical trip coils and provision is
madefor up to four coils.

OPERATION
When the operating handleis raised to its stop the springs are chargedvia the links B, C & D (see
Figs. 2 & 3). The operating handle is then allowed to return freely until the side stop is reached. The
springs are restrained in the charged position by the links B & C which are now "over toggle". The
degree of "over toggle" which is set at the factory to a template, is determined by the adjusting screw
X. To releasethe springs and close the circuit-breaker, the spring loaded side stop must be pulled out
O and the handle pushed back to the final handle stop breaking the above toggle. The circuit-breaker is now
closed and is prevented from opening bya set of toggle links, L & M (Fig. 5). When the coil is energised or the
push button is pressedthis toggle is broken allowing the mechanismlinkage to collapsethus opening the
oil circuit-breaker.

HAND OPERATION x
To operate the mechanism by hand, for maintenance
purposes the covers and pin "Y" (see Fig. 2) should be removed,
the maintenancehandle should be fitted to shaft "E" ensuring
that the half round projection on the handle engagesunder the
link "G". To close oil circuit-breaker raise the handle and C

to reset, then depressthe handleto its limit.

TRIP COILS O
The trip coils are mounted in pairs, one pair on each side D
of the mechanism. To remove a trip coil, unscrewthe hexagon
plunger tubes and the screw securing the appropriate coil
bracket. The bracket, with two coils attached, can now be

taken to the side of the mechanismwhen the coil can be dis- PLATE
connected and slipped off its spigot.

LOCKING
Provision is made for padlocking as follows :
To prevent access to the manualtrip button by meansof a
pivoted cover.
2. To prevent the handle being raised.

COMMISSIONING
The mechanism is normally supplied mounted on a circuit-breaker ready for use, being attached
with four in. B.S.F. nuts and bolts.
Before commissioning, the covers should be removed and the following checks carried out:—
- To Check Resetting

Charge the springs and place a suitable spacer between
ANOLE mechanismframe and spring plate (see Fig. 3). Lift the trip
bar with the left hand until the roller "S" can be forced
over the trip prop "N" (see Fig. 5). Whilst holding the
roller in this position turn shaft "E" (see Fig. 3) clockwise
to its limit. When the shaft is released the links should

collapse freely and smartly until the roller "S" is again
trapped by the prop.

To Check Tripping Assembly


ER BUFFER
Close circuit-breaker, check that the maximum free
travel of the trip bar is 1/16in. Now undo the stop screw,
which locates roller "S" (see Fig. 5) and push back the
SPRING PLATE roller until it remains away from the trip prop "N".
Screw up the adjustingscrew slowly until the roller jumps
back to the prop. Count the number of turns required
until the screw is hard againstthe link "M". A minimum

of four turns is allowed. Turn back the screw to give approximately.010 in. clear behind link "M" and
locking screw.
Raise trip bar slowly and check that the circuit-breaker trips within 3/16in. of the end of the trip bar
stroke. A force of 8} oz. at the trip bar will trip mechanism.

O TO CHECK SLOW CLOSING INTERLOCK


Raise spring charged handle slowly until the
interlock (see Fig. Il) releases the catch and so allows
the mechanismto reset, then lower the handle to check
that the circuit-breaker does not "slow-close". If this
happens, adjust the screw "Z" until a satisfactory
latching is obtained when the mechanism resets.

SETTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR S.C.7 FITTED WITH REMOTE RELEASE ASSEMBLY


(Fig. 12)
l. Check that main closing springs are uncharged.
2. Check that oil circuit-breaker is in tripped position.
3. Fit release assembly to mechanism.
4. Adjust domed screw (A) to within approximately5/8in. of LATCHING LEVER (B). Also adjust screw
(C) so that approximately 1/8 in. of thread is protruding.
5. Set plunger (D) to its lowest position.
6. Charge the main closing springs and insert safety block (F).
7. At the left hand side of the mechanismadjust the main toggle setting screw (G) until the pins (H)
and shaft (J) line up with standard setting gauge (K).
8. Unscrew (G) a further 1/16in. and tighten locknut. The 1/16in. clearanceshould be checked at this
stage by inserting a 1/16in. strip.
9. Raise the charging handle fully to the stop taking up the additional 1/16in. clearance.
10. At right hand side of mechanismadjust domed screw (A) so that when Remote Release Assembly
has latched and the main charging toggle has resumed its standard setting. Check by applying gauge
(K) at left hand side of mechanism.
ll. Remove safety block (F).
12. Adjust screw (C) so that a force of 2.75 lbs. is required to trip Remote ReleaseAssembly. This
force to be measuredat screw (C).
13. Charge the springs and check that the following features occur in the order stated.
(a) Spring release catch latches.
(b) Trip toggle is releasedby movementof catch (L). It is vital to ensurethat this toggle resets
later than the spring release toggle and its reset point can be controlled by adjusting screw (M)
which should be subsequentlylocked.
(c) Solid stop is engaged.

(d) On release of handle,stop arm (N) will spring from its stop screw by 1/16in. at the left hand side
of the mechanismand the inertia lever (O) at the right handside of the mechanismwill move
slightly towards the trip toggle reset catch (L).
(e) At this point check that inertia lever (O) rests againsttrip toggle release catch (L). This is
necessaryin order to ensure correct resetting of the trip toggle prior to reclosing the breaker
if the mechanismhas been given a second charge. In order to achieve this condition it may be
necessaryto repeat all the checks under Item 13 to attain the correct sequence.
(f) Lower handle against side stop (P).
(g) With Remote Release Assembly in the latched position set coil plunger so that 1/16in. gap exists
between push rod and release catch (E).
14. Insert safety block (F) and remove operating handle, apply standard gauge (K) to main charging
toggle to finally check setting and remove safety block.
15. Fit cover (only for earlier types of this mechanismwhere the stop block was welded to the cover).
16. Retract side stop (R) and close oil circuit-breaker.
17. Pull handle forward and check that side stop can re-engageon the forward side of stop block before
springs start to compress.
18. Check that the clearance between block and side stop in this condition is no greater than 1/8in.

MAINTENANCE
The mechanismshould be inspected at regular intervals. Mechanismsare lubricated during assembly
with an assembly paste containing molybdenum disulphide, lubrication in service therefore should be
limited to a few drops of oil, with MOS 2 additive applied to all pivots. All nuts and screws should be
checked for tightness.
If a spring release coil is fitted, check that the plunger operates freely and occasionally check the
insulation resistance.
