Doll body – small and large doll

Make sure to print pattern to 100% or actual size!

Instructions
To start you will need the following, other than your sewing machine and sewing needles:

1. Pattern printed to 100% scale or actual size

2. Jersey for making the doll legs, arms and cover the doll head
3. Printed cotton for making the doll body
4. And normal percale/calico for the doll head
5. Hollow fibre for stuffing the doll
6. Acrylic paint for the eyes
7. Blush for the doll’s cheeks
8. Synthetic hair
9. Doll clothes
10. Doll shoes
11. Dowel

Doll body – small and large doll

• Trace the pattern on your fabric and cut without seam allowance. When sewing the pieces together,
the dart will be on the inside about 3 mm
• Mark the fabric where the legs will be attached to the body. It is recommended that you mark from the
top of the dart 2cm (small doll) and 3 cm (large doll) upwards and in the centre of the doll body.
• For the legs mark it at 2. cm (small doll) and 2.5 cm (large doll) from the top of the leg.

Arms & Legs

• When cutting the arms and legs make sure that you place it on a fold. Also, make sure that the fabric
stretches lengthways and not sideways. If you get this wrong your legs will be short and fat and not
long and thin . We want long thin legs otherwise the length of the doll will be affected.

Pro tip: When sewing jersey or any sort of stretchy

fabric make sure you have the right needle – Jersey -
otherwise your stitches will jump making one long stitch
which will cause you a lot of heartache…as soon as you
start to fill your legs it will make holes between the
stitches

• When sewing the arms and the legs leave an opening at the bottom of the leg that will be used for
stuffing and the same with the arm, leave the opening on the side of the arm for stuffing.
• Stuff the legs tightly – if you don’t your doll will have difficulty standing on her own.
• Stuff the arms but not as tight as the legs. Use your judgement here.

Doll body – small and large doll

Doll Head
The doll head consists of 2 parts.
• The stuffed doll head, and
• The cover for the doll head made from Jersey

For the stuffed doll head:

• Cut out the fabric on calico or percale – this should preferably be a plain fabric otherwise it might shine
through when you cover it with Jersey.
• You should have 6 parts when you finished cutting.
• Sew all the parts together – at this stage, it must look like a deflated ball, with an opening at the
bottom.
• Turn the fabric inside out – now it is ready for stuffing.
• Use hollow fibre to stuff the head – it should be stuffed VERY TIGHTLY
• Once you are done, your head will look like this with an opening at the bottom.

Pro tip: When you sew the

head make sure you double
stitch the top and bottom to
prevent the stitching from
unravelling as soon as you
start to stuff the head.

• Now you can cut out the cover for the doll head made from Jersey.
• When cutting your piece of Jersey, make sure the fabric stretches sideways. When you attempt to pull
the cover over the doll head it will be effortless.

Doll body – small and large doll

Doll Body
• For the doll body, you can use a nice printed fabric, trace and cut out.
• Sew the two indent parts to each other.
• Now sew the rest of the fabric to each other leaving the top part open, turn the fabric inside out and
start to stuff.
• Just like the head, your body should be stuffed VERY TIGHTLY as this will ensure your doll is nice
and sturdy.
• Now you need to sew the top part close leaving just a small gap to insert a small wooden dowel in.

• Fold your fabric over as shown to make a little seam and start to weave your thread through it with a
needle.
• You will weave the thread through until you reach the end of the seam.

Doll body – small and large doll

• Once you’ve done this, pull the thread and gather the seam.

• As you pull it tighter keep on filling the body with the fibre to make sure that it will be tight at the top as
well.

• Sew the thread from side to side, keeping a small hole in the centre for the wooden dowel.
• By now you should have stuffed all the parts and the doll should be ready to assemble.

Assembly Instructions

Assembling Head to the Body

• Insert the wooden dowel – this will make sure that the head is nice and sturdy and not bobbling
around.

Doll body – small and large doll

• Take the cover for the doll head and pull it over the body so that when the head is sewn to the body
you can pull the cover over the head to cover the neck with the jersey as well.

Pro tip: Make sure the

outside of the sewn fabric is
facing you so that when you
pull it over it will be facing
the right way.

• Place the head on the body and make sure that the wooden dowel, head and the body is all in the
centre before you start to sew it.
• Start to sew the head to the body using a strong needle and thick thread to ensure it will stay in place.
• Don’t worry about getting it perfect as long as the head is sewn tightly to the body and is in the
centre, you are good to go!
• Once you pull the cover over the head no one will notice this

Doll body – small and large doll

• If you If you are happy with the head you can now pull the cover over the head. This will be a bit of a
challenge depending on how tight the head was stuffed
• This is what it will look like once you have completed this step.

• Now the next step is to gather the fabric at the top of the head. Follow the same principle as you did
with sewing the body closed.
• Do this all around until you reach the end.

Doll body – small and large doll

• Now pull and gather it in the middle. Sew the end of the thread and secure it to the doll’s head to make
sure it won’t unravel.

• To finish this off, secure the doll headcover on the body as well. Work all around to the end.

• Now your doll should be looking like this.

Doll body – small and large doll

Assembling legs to the body

• You will now assemble the legs to the body using a long needle and thick thread.
• Use the marks as your guide as to where the legs will be attached.
• Loosely sew the buttons to the legs to ensure they stay in place.

• Sew the legs to the body by inserting the needle through the button and the mark on the body through
to the other leg. Make sure that the needle exit at the mark and then through the button. As you pull it
out on the other side pull the thread tight as this will bring the legs closer together and enable your doll
to stand. (the same way you sew a button on a shirt)

• Tip: Before you sew the legs to the body, make sure that they are even.
• Once you are done with the legs, fasten off and sew in the end.
• By the end of this, your doll should be able to stand on her own, without shoes!

Doll body – small and large doll

Eyes

• Get the centre of the head and measure 8 cm from the neckline, upwards.
• Use a thin paintbrush and make small circles 1 cm apart for the eyes.

Tip: Use the front of the body as your centre line.

Assembling Arms to the body

Please note - There will be no assembling of the arms to the body as this will be done when the
doll is being dressed.

• You will sew the arms to the doll once she is dressed. If your pattern uses a sleeve, you will put this
stuffed arm into the sleeve and then sew it to the body. Use your judgement in determining where her
armpits will be, you then assemble it in the same way you will the legs, without the button. Make a
knot in your thread, and pull it through the body to attach the arms at each side. Continue doing this
until you are satisfied it is secured.
• If you are using our jacket and hoody, this will cover the little thread you used to assemble the arms,
otherwise a lovely scarf will do the trick.

Practice makes perfect!

Enjoy!

Bunny Suit – Small and Large doll

Make sure to print pattern to 100% or actual size!

Bunny Ears
• Start with the bunny ears as you will use it in the hoody
• The pattern requires 4 pieces – you can choose to do the inside of the bunny ears in a different color
• Put the rights side together and sew the ears together leaving the bottom of the ears open in order to
turn it inside out.
• Once you have turned the ears inside out, pinch the bottom pieces together and sew with needle and
thread to keep in place for easy sewing to the hoody

Bunny Suit – Hoody

• The pattern requires that you have to cut 4 of the side pieces and 2 of the center pieces.
• You can choose a different color for the inside of the suit
• Start with the inside of the hoody first
• With rights sides facing each other sew the side pieces to the center piece
• Your hoody should look like this by now
• If you find that the center piece is longer than the other pieces, just trim it so that it is in line with the
side pieces
Pro tip : remember
when sewing with
stretchy fabric not to
pull the fabric too
much when sewing it
together as this will
cause it to be longer.
Also make sure to
cut your fabric in the
same thread
direction.

Bunny Suit – Small and Large doll

• You will now start with the outside of the hoody

• Follow the same instructions as you did for the inside, the only difference is that you will now sew in
the bunny ears as well
• Choose where you want your ears to be and sew it in the seam when sewing the side and center
pieces together

• Now you need to combine the inside and the outside of the hoody to each other
• With the right sides facing each other, sew the along the side of the hoody leaving the bottom open in
order to turn it inside out
• Once you’ve sewn the sides together turn your hoody inside out, align it at the bottom and sew it close
with a needle and thread – just is just for ease of sewing it to the suit later and can be removed
afterwards

Bunny Suit – Small and Large doll

Body Suit
• First sew the sides of each piece together
• Then you will put the right sides facing each other and sew the back of the suite and the inside legs
together
• We do not sew the front piece as you will close this and assemble it on the doll

Assembling the hoody to the body suit

• Find the center of the hoody and align it with the back of the suit
• Pin it in place and sew together
