PHY224A LAB: EXPERIMENT #7

1. Basics of Imaging.

AIM: Demonstrate one application of 4f imaging.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
TORCH LIGHT, WHITE SCREEN, 2 BLADES, COPPER COIL, OBJECTS TO ALLIGN HEIGHT, CARDBOARD, CLAY, 10CM
LENSES.

THEORY:
PROCEDURE:
• ALIGN THE TORCH LIGHT, DOUBLE-SLIT, LENS AND WHITE SCREEN IN A STRAIGHT LINE.
• PLACE THE LENSES AND DOUBLE-SLIT ACCORDINGLY TO 4F IMAGING SYSTEM WITH A DISTANCE 10,20,10
FOR SCREEN TO LENS, LENS TO LENS AND LENS TO OBJECT ACCORDINGLY.
• TURN ON THE TORCH LIGHT AND OBSERVE THE IMAGE FORMED IN THE
• DO THE EXPERIMENT AND CAPTURE THE IMAGE FORMED IN THE WHITE SCREEN.
SETUP:
RECORDED DATA:

RESULT:
4F IMAGING SYSTEM CREATES A CLEAR IMAGING OF MAGNIFICATION 1.

ERROR ANALYSIS AND PRECAUTIONS:

• THE EXPERIMENT SHOULD BE PERFORMED IN SUITABLE CONDITIONS.
• SINCE THE LEAST COUNT OF THE SCALE USED TO POSITION THE LENS AND DOUBLE-SLIT IS 1MM SO THERE
MIGHT BE A MINOR ERROR.
