A. Before the Lesson
a. Motivation
1. How do I see myself and how do I see others?
 In this activity, the students will describe themselves using the first
person point of view and also, they will describe their seatmates,
friends, etc. using the third person point of view.
b. Vocabulary
1. Graphic Organizer
 The students will write down the synonym of the words that are
inside the circle and from there, they need to create a sentence
using the given words.

c. Author Study
 Eku McGred (also known as George During) was born in
Freetown, Sierra Leonne and a gifted musician, poet and
songwriter. He currently serves at a local parish of the Redeemed
Christian Church of God in United Kingdom.
B. During the Lesson
1. First Reading
 The teacher reads the poem with proper intonation and
pronunciation stanza by stanza and lets the students read each
stanza and correct any error made by the students.
2. Second Reading
 Students read the poem aloud with proper intonation and
pronunciation.
C. After the Lesson
a. Quiz
Write Y if the statement is correct and write N if the statement is wrong.
1. Eku McGred is an African poet.
2. The speaker in the poem, “I am an African Child” is the author himself.
3. Bashir Goth wrote the poem titled, “African Phoenix” in a third person
point of view.
4. “I am an African Child” is based on the author’s personal experiences of
racism.
5. Bashir Goth uplifts the spirit of the African Nation through his poem.
