Using the Quran passages from the syllabus, describe what the Quran teaches

about God’s responsibility to His creatures and their duties towards Him. [10]
 Many passages from the syllabus describe various aspects of God’s relationship
with His creatures.
1. His power to create man as the most supreme creature
2. His power to provide means of sustenance.
3. His ability to guide them.
4. His ability to protect them.
5. His provision of mercy and justice.
6. His command to humans to worship Him.
 Surah Fatiha teaches us the most important prayer: “Show us the straight
way”
 This ‘’straight way’’ is contained in the Quran and the Sunnah; it is the way
which has been followed by the righteous people.
 Through Dua, we know which path to take and which to avoid.
 This Surah helps us to stick to the right mind set as well as the right actions in
our daily life.
 The same surah declares Him as “the Master of the Day of Judgement”
 It reminds us that although we are free to do what we want—we will be judged by
Him
 (talk about good conduct as the key to success in the Hereafter)
 Another passage, Surah Alaq invites us to reflect on the fact that human ability to
read and write and to acquire worldly and Divine knowledge would not have been
possible without God’s blessings Proclaim! And your Lord is most bountiful,
He who taught by the pen, taught man what he did not know.
 Similarly verses from Surah Baqarah outline God’s special favour for the survival
and growth of humans by using the expression Who has made the earth your
couch, and the heavens your canopy; and sent down rain from the
heavens; and by it brought forth fruits for your sustenance.
 God commands us to remember this and worship Him O people! Adore your
Guardian-Lord
 (discuss forms of worship: 5 pillars)
 God thus expects that we acknowledge His power by never committing shirk
then do not set up rivals to Allah, when you know.
 God is aware of the vulnerability of humans before Satan and evil.
 Surah Nas repeats God’s attributes as ‘’Lord of mankind’’ ‘’The King of
mankind’’ ‘’The God of Mankind’’
 He is the Lord of mankind, which means He is the Sustainer and provides us with
everything that is essential for our survival.
 He is the King of mankind, which means he has the ultimate power and authority
over everyone and everything.
 He is the God of mankind means that He is the only one worthy of worship. No
one has a share in His Divinity.
 Therefore, has full powers to undo all evil forces crafted by Satan.
 Satan and his team are called the whisperer in this surah.
 ‘’Say: I seek refuge… From the mischief of the whisperer who withdraws’’
 Man cannot be tempted in one attempt so the whisperer whispers in the heart of
man over and over again.
 When man remembers Allah, the whisperer withdraws. Thus when the whisperer
fails in his attempt to lead man astray, he again returns to make the second and
third or countless attempts.
 Surah Zilzal gives a description of the end of time by saying When the earth is
shaken to her utmost convulsion
 After giving the details of the outcome of the convulsions, it refers to God’s power
to dispense ultimate justice Then shall anyone who has done an atom’s
weight of good see it! And anyone who has done an atom’s weight of evil
shall see it.(explain justice with example)
 The five passages, collectively, discuss God’s attributes and bounties and how
we should acknowledge His power and thank Him for His countless favours.

The Qur’an teaches Muslims about their relationship with God. Write about this
relationship using the passages you have studied. [10]

These passages are about God’s relationship with creation, but each talk about that
relationship in a distinctive way. They all allow humankind to see the link between them
and God. It is not just about God giving human beings things for their sustenance, but
humans need to give thanks in return and live their life remembering Him, which can be
done in different ways.

Sura 1 Talks about humankind being created to worship God and that can be done in
many ways, prayer, following the sunnah, making dua, etc. It emphasises that He is the
creator and controller of all that is in the heavens and the earth, and that He will judge
over humankind. They in return should ask Him for help to remain guided. Asking for
help is important which is why this is used as a prayer.

Sura 96.1–5 This shows the link between humankind and God by emphasising the
creation of humans, and that He then gave knowledge to humans, the tool for their
learning. They in return should seek knowledge whenever they can as well as teaching
it.
Sura 99 This shows that the earth is created for humankind’s benefit and that they will
be judged at the end of time according to how they lived their lives on it. That could be
related to how well they followed God and His Messenger (pbuh), how they fulfilled
their obligations, or how they looked after the earth which was created for their benefit.
They have a responsibility for their actions, so although God provides for humans, they
have to do good to show God that they are grateful.

Sura 2.21–22 This passage shows that God provides sustenance for His creation. He
gives so that they can have shelter, food and drink. They should therefore look after
their environment and protect the things that God has provided for them. God wants
humans to acknowledge that He is the one who provides them with this, and not
anyone else, and so they should not seek to praise others for what they have been given
by God.

Sura 96.1–5 This shows the link between humankind and God by emphasising the
creation of humans, that He is their creator and no one else. He then gave knowledge to
humans, the tool for their learning. They in return should seek knowledge whenever
they can as well as teaching it.

‘God gave humankind guidance and teachings.’ Why does the Qur’an lay emphasis on the
need to gain knowledge? [4]

Having given guidance (through the Qur’an and sunnah, etc.), God wants knowledge to be used
to learn about life and to live lives in a good way. Without learning, humans would not know
about their rights and responsibilities or about their potential as human beings. In order to
respond to what God wants or what is of benefit to themselves or others, they have to learn
how to respond. God is full of mercy and love, He is guiding people so they benefit in this life
and in the next. The most beneficial knowledge would be that which helps a person fulfil their
rights towards God, fellow humans, and to develop themselves.
