Rules 1. Always listen to instructions. “Yes sir”
-Because I don’t want to hear anybody asking for another
repetition of instructions.
2. Participate.
-Do not do anything unnecessary or not related to our subject.
3. Keep your phone silent and put it in your bag
4. Respect one another.

ACTIVITY So all you are going to do is try to guess the picture to be given.
you will be given only 2 minutes to guess and explain your
answer in the front.
If you guess all the given picture you will also be given additional
points. Is that clear?
So class are you ready?”

ABSTRACTION (Start the class)

At this point we will know how your answers are correct or
wrong.

Welder information (is classified into two particular parts first we

have base metal properties and base metal composition)
Base Metal Properties
Base Metal Strength-base metal strength can be measured
through its tensile strength. it is the ability of the metal to resist
being pulled apart by opposing forces acting in a straight line.
ex. welding base metal using E6011

Shear Strength
is the ability of a metal to split by opposing forces not acting to
resist being a straight line.
School: Hinaplanon National High School Grade Level: Grade 12
Teacher: Japhet M. Mariquit Learning Area: SMAW
Date: April 11, 2022 Quarter: 4 th quarter

ex. cutting of plain sheet metal using a metal scissor/cutter.

Comprehensive Strength
is the ability of a metal to withstand pressure acting on a given
plane.
ex. placing 80 kilos of the anvil on the top of the metalworking
table.

elasticity
there are certain metals that will return to their original size and
shape after being pulled/stretched.

ductility
the ability of the metal to be permanently pulled/stretched
without splitting or being fissured.

malleability
the ability of the metal to be hammered, pressed or rolled into
various shapes without being raptured or broken.

Toughness
metal can withstand stress, able to resist fracture and failure
after damaged had begun.

Hardness
able to resist metal penetration and heavy pounding.

brittleness
the tendency of a metal to be easily deformed, fracture, or
break. normally the harder the metal, the more brittle it is.

corrosion resistance
there are certain metals like alloy steel that are made up of
chromium that resisted corrosive chemical agents.

heat and electrical conductivity

metal is a very good conductor and can easily transfer heat and
electricity.

machinability and weld ability

of a metal can be easily driven by machine or welding
operations.

b. Base Metal Composition

ferrous metal - a metal that has an iron component.

ex. cast iron, wrought iron, steel, low and high carbon steel,
tungsten carbide, and alloy steel.
School: Hinaplanon National High School Grade Level: Grade 12
Teacher: Japhet M. Mariquit Learning Area: SMAW
Date: April 11, 2022 Quarter: 4 th quarter

non-ferrous - a metal that has no component or iron.

ex. magnesium, aluminum, copper, bronze, lead, tin, nickel, and
other precious metals.
B. Base metal cleaning
base metal should be always clean and must be free from oil,
grease, and rust.

Tips on how to clean base metal

Physical cleaning
uses rugs with anti-corrosive agents to remove base metal
defects and other forms of porosities.
Mechanical cleaning
Hand tools- the most convenient way to clean base metal flaws.
ex. metal files, metal brush, and chipping hammer.
Power tools -these mechanical tools are very effective in cleaning
base metal gas pockets but with precautionary measures.
ex. portable angle and rough grinders, bench, and pedestal
“none so far
grinders.
sir”

of none, then let us have a short quiz. None
