 ABSTRACT
E-learning is an integral part of smart education. There are many E-learning systems that are
widely available to educational institutions. The challenge is to easily integrate the E-
learning system into a smart educational environment based on the requirements of the
users. The E-learning services rely on a software system that allows access to all the
materials for the educational process and makes them electronically available to all the
students on the Internet whenever they need and wherever they are. The design and
development of E-learning system is a critical part of the educational process as it reflects
on the usage of the system. In this work, the design and implementation of E-learning
systems is described where different techniques are explored and compared. The proposed
E-learning system is designed using off the-shelf and open-source software engineering
model and programming tools and database models. The system is tested to prove the new
design concepts and features. The method used in the back-end and front-end design and
implementation allows flexible usage and integration of the E-learning systems.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction to Internship

E-learning is an education via the Internet, network, or standalone computer. E-learning
is basically the network-enabled convey of skills and knowledge. E-learning refers to
usingelectronic applications and processes to learn. E-learning includes all forms of
electronically supported learning and teaching (Tirkes, G,2010).. The information and
communication systems, whether networked learning or not, serve as specific media to
implement the learning process. This often involves both out-ofclassroom and in-classroom
educational experiences via technology, even as advances continue in regard to devices and
curriculum. E-learning is the computer and network-enabled transfer of skills and knowledge. E-
learning applications and processes include Web-based learning, computer-based learning,
virtual education opportunities and digital collaboration. Content is delivered via the Internet,
intranet/extranet, audio or video tape, satellite TV, and CD-ROM. That is to say Elearning
systems contain both Learning Management System and Course management system. It can be
self-pace or instructor-led and includes media in the form of text, image, animation, streaming
video and audio. It is commonly thought that new technologies can make a big difference in
education. In young ages especially, children can use the huge interactivity of new media, and
develop their skills, knowledge, and perception of the world, under their parents' monitoring, of
course. Many proponents of e-learning believe that everyone must be equipped with basic
knowledge in technology, as well as use it as a medium to reach a particular goal and aim. In the
20th century, we have moved from the Industrial Age through the Information Age and now to
the Knowledge Age. Knowledge and its efficient management constitute the key to success and
survival for organizations in the highly dynamic and competitive world of today. Efficient
acquisition, storage, transfer, retrieval, application, and visualization of knowledge often
distinguish successful organizations from the unsuccessful ones. The ability to obtain,
assimilate, and apply the right knowledge effectively will become a key skill in the next century.
Learning is the key to achieving our full potential.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

2.1 Technologies and Domain

2.1.1 HTML 5
Html is a language which is used to create web pages with html marking up a page to indicate its
format, telling the web browser where you want a new line to begin or how you want text or
images aligned and more are possible. HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It is
used to design web pages using a markup language. HTML is an abbreviation of Hypertext and
Markup language. Hypertext defines the link between the web pages. The markup language is
used to define the text document within the tag which defines the structure of web pages. HTML
5 is the fifth and current version of HTML. It has improved the markup available for documents
and has introduced application programming interfaces (API) and Document Object Model
(DOM).

2.1.2 Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Cascading Style Sheets, fondly referred to as CSS, is a simple design language intended to
simplify the process of making web pages presentable. CSS is a MUST for students and
working professionals to become a great Software Engineer specially when they are working in
Web Development Domain. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a markup language responsible
for how your web pages will look like. It controls the colours, fonts, and layouts of your
website elements. This style sheet language also allows you to add effects or animations to
your website. You can use it to display some CSS animations like click button effects,
spinners or loaders, and animated backgrounds. Without CSS, your website will appear as a plain
HTML page. CSS style is an effective method of styling a single page. However, using this style
for multiple pages is time- consuming as you need to put CSS rules on every page of your
website. You can easily and quickly insert CSS rules to an HTML page. That’s why this
method is useful for testing or previewing the changes, and performing quick-fixes to your
website.

2.1 Internship Mini Project Summary

E-learning has the potential to transform how and when employees learn. Learning will become
more integrated with work and will use shorter, more modular, just-in-time delivery systems. By
sleveraging workplace technologies, e-learning is bridging the gap between learning and work.
Workers can integrate learning into work more effectively because they use the same tools and
technology for learning as they use for work. Both employers and employees recognize that e-
learning will diminish the narrowing gap between work and home, and between work and
learning.E-learning is an option to any organization looking to improve the skills and capacity of
its employees. With the rapid change in all types of working environments, especially medical
and healthcare environments, there is a constant need to rapidly train and retrain people in new
technologies, products, and services found within the environment. There is also a constant and
unrelenting need for appropriate management and leveraging of the knowledge base so that it is
readily available and accessible to all stakeholders within the workplace environment.

2.1.2 Application Overview

E-learning is a kind of distant learning using new technologies educational apps, online
platforms, programs, podcasts, blogs, online tools, etc. They can facilitate and monitor learning,
provide access to resources, offer support in a simple and fun way, we’ll outline the key
advantages of educational apps, their types, and walk you through the process of e-learning app
development.

2.1.3 Application Objective

A software requirement definition is an abstract description of the services which the system
should provide, and the constraints under which the system must operate. It should only
specify the External behaviour of the system. The requirements are specified as below:

INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES
4.1 Benefits and Advantages of Internship
An Internship is work experience for a defined period offered by an employer. Potential
employees accepting internships are called interns. Internships are normally offered by
universities and can take place during summer or the regular semesters.
The internship provides an excellent opportunity to have a better perspective and understanding
of the career. During the internship, interns get an on-the-job opportunity to work in their desired
field and learn to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world scenario. Internship
challenges theories and concepts studied in schools and colleges and provides an invaluable
professional experience is one of the biggest internship benefits. When you graduate and start
applying for jobs, employers start looking for work experience and candidates having internships
on their resumes have an edge to get hired for the interview. There is a higher degree of
competition in the job market. Businesses are competing against each other and so are people for
the competitive advantage in their own space. One good internship in the resume carries a major
significance while trying to enter the job market. In a digital classroom, active learning and
social interaction are key components. Throughout these classrooms, collaboration and sharing
can take place among students. Teachers can bring the small learning groups together to
encourage them to share ideas and contribute to the discussion. Students will feel motivated to
participate in online discussions as they can freely share their views.

4.2 Challenges Faced

Internship are the first step in the work-life. While it is a common belief that landing a great
internship should be the end of your worries, you must know that the end of your search for an
internship placement is the beginning of a new set of problems. As you are new to everything
during the internship, you face many challenges. There are chances that you can complete your
internship smoothly but there can also be a time when you cannot escape the challenges. We
have found some of the internship problems and their solutions to help you navigate through it
all. Whether you have landed that internship job, are about to, or preparing to apply, this blog
will serve as a guide for you. The environment at each office, organization, and company is

different. As an intern, you have to work with different challenges, goals, and work cultures.
During the initial days, most interns get nervous working in such an unfriendly environment and
are unable to continue their internships while others are unable to perform to the best of their
ability. However, it will become easy and manageable if you already know the challenges,
difficulties, and problems you're about to face.

4.3 Technical Outcomes

There is widespread consensus that internships provide great opportunities for engineering
students to develop diverse knowledge and competencies. Yet, compared to learning in the
classroom, learning in the workplace is less predictable. This study aims to address the
research question "What are engineering students' perceived learning outcomes from their
internship experience?" by using a qualitative approach to pinpoint commonalities and
differences in students' perceived learning outcomes. Content analysis and constant
comparative analysis were used to analyze interview data collected from ten engineering
students in Hong Kong. Four categories of learning outcomes were revealed: knowledge,
academic-related generic competencies, non-technical generic competencies and technical
competencies.
4.4 Non Technical Outcomes
The teaching of non-technical skills (which by their nature tend to be less tangible),
presents perhaps the greatest challenge for trainers in preparing learners for safe
professional practice. Non-technical skills include the cognitive skills (e.g. decision making
and situation awareness) and social and personal resource skills (e.g. communication,
teamwork, leadership, managing stress etc.) which compliment technical skills and are
necessary for safe and effective performance in a real life clinical setting.Informed by my
experience of working with the US Navy, Irish medical interns, and in the development of
the virtual patient platform, Medical Exam Tutor, here are 5 fundamental principles
essential for effective teaching and learning ofnon-technical skills.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, to these research project I find that to develop a fully working system is notonly a
difficult task but also requires a lot knowledge in database design and some programming
languages. I wish I could develop the system I had in my mind but due to the limited skill I
couldn’t. It would be very helpful if the University could concentrate on some of the subjects to
be covered in a way that they would help students in their projects, instead of learning C we
could be taught ASP.net, PHP and the other languages that are used when developing a system.
Finally I would like to express myself as to how I find this process of developing a system to be
very awaking to the mind of a student and to learn how to and teach themselves things. I have
built a skill of how to search for things and develop then to my needs. It has indeed been a great
experience.
