Fetal Alchohol Syndrome by Ezra, Sarah & Alexy

Fetal alcohol syndrome (FASD) is a condition babies can develop when a mother drinks alcohol during pregnancy. Drinking alcohol exposes the baby to the same blood alcohol level as the mother. Babies cannot process alcohol as effectively as adults due to their liver not being fully developed, which can cause brain and physical damage. Symptoms of FASD include physical defects, intellectual disabilities, behavioral issues, and problems with attention, memory and coordination. While prevention is ideal by avoiding alcohol during pregnancy, treatment for those with FASD involves lifelong support through education and therapy.
