DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 4
I. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
1. Identify the parts of the seed
2. Define GERMINATION
3. Illustrate understanding on functions of each part
II. Learning Concept
Topic: PARTS OF A SEED IN IN ITS GERMINATION
Learning References: Science for Daily use 4 Textbook, pp. 83-84
Materials: Charts, picture
Values Integration: Cooperation
III. Learning Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
Good morning class! Good morning ma’am!
Let us pray first (One student will lead a prayer)
(Checking of attendance) (Students raise their hands and say
Say present present as the teacher calls in their
name)
Okay class. Before we start to our next (The student raise their hands)
topic. Can someone gave me a summary Our topic last Monday is all about the
on what we’ve tackled last Monday? life cycle of a butterfly.
Okay, Very Good! So let’s proceed to our
next topic which is the parts of a seed in
its GERMINATION.
A. Engagement
Yes ma’am!
Have you seen a seed?
Embryo ma’am!
What kind of seeds do you know?
They differ in size and shape
What do you notice about those seeds?
B. Exploration
“Now I have here a short story and I want
you to listen carefully and we will answer
few questions later”
(The teacher will read “The Tiny Seed”
by Eric Carle) Yes ma’am!
Did you enjoy the story? Yes ma’am!
Are you ready to answer some questions?
Discussion Questions: The Tiny Seed ma’am!
Who is the main character in the story? Air!
What blows the seed? No ma’am!
Did the tiny seed fell on the ground
during autumn? (The students will respond)
Why do you think the tiny seed was the
last one who grew?
C. Explanation
“Seeds have been an important
development in the reproduction and
spread of flowering plants. Seeds, though
too small, they have their own parts, like
an ordinary living thing.”
Today, we’re going to learn the different
parts of a SEED
“A seed only develops its parts only when
it undergoes a process called SEED
GERMINATION.”
The teacher will post the definition of
GERMINATION
(She will let the pupils read it loud)
“GERMINATION is the process by
which plants emerge from seed and being
growth.”
Okay thank you…
I have here an illustration of a seed during
germination
These are the parts of the SEED during
germination.
PARTS OF A SEED
Embryo- a very young plant from
which a new plant grow under
proper conditions.
Radicle- in dicot is the embryonic
root
Yes ma’am!
(A pupil will go in front and point out
radicle in the illustration)
Can you point out where is the radicle in
the illustration?
“Within the seed, there is usually a store
of nutrients for the seeding that will grow
from the EMBRYO. The seed has its own
food supply called EPICOTYL and
COTYLEDONS.”
(A pupil will respond)
Seed coat - develops from tissue,
originally surrounding the
OVULE. The seed coat helps
protect the embryo.
So where’s the seed coat in the None ma’am!
illustration?
Yes ma’am!
“Okay, Thank you. So you see, the SEED
COAT is the outer part of a seed.”
An EMBRYO
Any other questions?
Did you understand the lessons?
RADICLE!
Again what is a very young plant from
which a new plant grow under proper
conditions? EPICOTYL and COTYLEDON
What about the embryonic root in a dicot
seed?
What do you call the seeds own food
supply?
Very good!
D. Elaboration
“Group activity”
Group 1: Identify the parts of the
seed from the figure
Group 2: Answer the questions in
the board.
E. Evaluation
(The teacher will post a chart with
questions on board”
DIRECTION: On your
answer sheet, answer the
following:
1. It protects the embryo.
a. Roots
b. Leaf
c. Seed coat
2. It grows into a young
plant.
a. Seed coat
b. Endosperm
c. Embryo
3. It provides food to the
young plant.
a. Seed coat
b. Embryo
c. Endosperm
4. Which of these is not
part of a seed?
a. Flower
b. Embryo
c. Seed coat
5. The epicotyl is a part of
embryo that grows into
______.
a. Leaves
b. Roots
c. Stem
IV. Assignment
- What is the cycle of life for a
butterfly?
- How does an egg become a
butterfly?
- How long does a butterfly stay in
a cocon?
