STEP‐BY‐STEP WEEK 0: WELCOME AND ORIENTATION
These weekly documents have been created so that you can track your progress through the
content for the particular week. It is optional for you to use it – we thought that you may find it
helpful to see your progress with the content that needs to be covered each week.
Please note that the images may have changed depending on system upgrades.
1. Welcome to the HMEMS80
module – Research Methodology
Honours for the College of
Economic and Management
Sciences (CEMS) at Unisa.
2. We have broken down the work
for this module into 15 weeks
and in each week we provide a
step‐by‐step document such as
this one for you to check that you
cover the content , learning tasks
and activities for that week. We
hope that you will find it an
enjoyable and useful learning
experience!
Optional use: You can use the
weekly step‐by‐step documents
and the Topic Guide document
for the same week to guide you
through the course material.
Except for the textbook that you
have to buy, all other study
material that you need will be
uploaded on myUnisa throughout
the semester.
3. Use the official Study @ Unisa
document to familiarise yourself
with important information that
you should know about – for
example how you should register
for and log into myUnisa using
your student number.

4. Login to myUnisa using your
student number and password
5. The General myUnisa site will
display with a message to all
students
6. Go to the subject site HMEMS80
and look at the categories of
information available on myUnisa
for this module
7. When you go to the subject site,
you will be on the “Home” page
for this module. To view the
other options that you will be
using in your studies you can click
on them one by one to see what
information or material is
contained in each section:
Click on the “Additional
Resources” on the left side and
notice the list of folders – one per
week.

8. To go back to the main menu,
click on “Home” on the left side
or click on the two small green
“circular” arrows at the top left of
the screen to go up one level
each time until you are at the
place you want to be in the
subject site.
9. When you click on the two small
green circular arrows on the top
next to the section heading you
will move one level back on the
site.
A schedule is provided with
important dates indicated – such
as assignment dates.
10. Go into the folder marked “Week
0” and download the “Read First”
document uploaded there.
Carefully read this document –
which is intented to welcome
and orientate you for this
module. You will note some
additional document that you
will also find under the WEEK 0
sub‐folder of the “Additional
Resources” folder.

11. Specific material for each week is
uploaded in the Additional
Resources for that week.
12. Ensure that you a copy of the PRESCRIBED BOOK: Bekwa, N.,
prescribed book compiled by Grobler, S., Olivier, B., Sadiki, M., &

and the “Comrades Bus” as an
analogy when guiding you
through the different sections
and material per week for this
module. Try to view some of the
Youtube videos that illustrate
how the “comrades bus” runners
arrive at the finish line! We hope
the picture of the start of the
race on the right will get you
motivated for the race/journey
ahead!
