1. Product Purpose
PetButler is designed as an all-in-one solution that caters to the needs of busy pet owners, providing a
clean and tidy living space while ensuring exceptional pet care [1]. Understanding their need for both
pet companionship and maintaining a hygienic environment when they are away, this product can attract
users to purchase for two reasons: household cleaning and pet care.
The first aspect, household cleaning, focuses on providing a time-saving and efficient solution for
maintaining a clean home [2]. PetButler effectively tackles pet hair and normal dust, improves overall
hygiene, contributes to a healthier home environment.
The second aspect, pet care of providing convenience, security, and companionship for pets while
meeting their essential needs. PetButler enables pet owners to view their pets in the real time, which
helps detect potential danger early. Additionally, PetButler enables pet owners to interact with their pets
remotely, including communication and treat dispensing [3].
In summary, PetButler is a versatile and comprehensive solution that addresses both household cleaning
and pet care needs, allowing homeowners and their pets to enjoy a happier, healthier, and more
connected lifestyle [4].

2. Product Functionality
2.1. Product prototype
The product prototype of PetButler could be shown in Figure 2-1.

Figure 2-1. The product prototype of PetButler.

2.2. Product detailed functionality
Our product, the all-in-one smart vacuum cleaner robot for pet families, is designed to provide efficient
and convenient cleaning while also serving as a pet-sitting assistant. Our robot addresses the common
issues of traditional vacuum bots, such as no animal protection, and pet hair tangling. With our robot,
pet owners can have peace of mind knowing that their pets are safe and entertained, even when they are
away from home.
a) Noise-free brushless motor
Our brushless motor provides sufficient suction power of 3000pa, with a compact size of around 120mm
diameter and 80-100mm length, making it ideal for small-size vacuum cleaners.
b) Advanced Filtration system
The cleaning power is enhanced by a powerful brushless motor, working in tandem with our High-
Performance Filtration and Airflow (HPFA) system. This unique combination reduces the need for high

1
EEEE3100_CWB_Business Plan_Group 8

suction power, making it energy-efficient, while also improving indoor air quality, which is especially
important for pet hair collection. In general, an HPFA filter can cost anywhere from $10 to $50. [5]
c) Self-cleaning, charging and docking station
Our vacuum cleaner comes with a self-cleaning, charging, and docking station that ensures convenient
and hassle-free operation. The station automatically cleans the vacuum's brush roll and charges it for
the next use. One example of a brand that offers a cleaning and charging station for small-size vacuum
robots is iRobot with their Roomba series [6].
d) Remote control through App
Allows user-friendly remote control, adding multiple accounts so everyone in the family can keep an
eye on pets.
e) Precise obstacle avoidance
We prioritize the safety of your pets, which is why our vacuum cleaner is equipped with advanced
LIDAR+VISUAL object detection technology for flexible obstacle avoidance. This ensures that our
product can navigate around your home without causing harm to your furry friends.
Implementing object recognition and obstacle avoidance features in a vacuum bot can vary in cost
depending on several factors such as the level of sophistication of the technology, the quality of
components, and the level of customization required. With a reference cost of $39 USD. The Benewake
TFmini Plus LIDAR Module is a small and lightweight sensor designed for obstacle detection and
distance measurement in a variety of applications, including small household robots [7].
Pet sitting features
a) Full HD 360 Degree Cam: our product features a high-quality camera that can provide real-
time monitoring and capture clear pictures of your pet.
b) Voice Communication: allows easy voice communication with pets from a remote location.
c) Interactive Laser + Treat Dispenser: Our robot provides laser stimulation to interact with pets
and dispense treats to keep them entertained and happy.
There are few examples of small robots with pet interactive features that are available in the market and
their price range from $50 to $150 [8, 9]. However, these features can be implemented based on the
vacuum bot model, which means the excessive cost would be only the addition of camera, a voice
module and laser sensor.
2.3. Price of product
After investigation, a mid-range vacuum cleaner model with basic features, such as multi-surface
brushes and Wi-Fi connectivity, priced at around $200 [6], The price of a vacuum bot with pet
interactive features may be higher due to the additional functionality and components required for the
vacuuming feature. From the information above, the excessive cost can be limited to $70 (noting that
$200 contains a complete model including all the basic components). Our product is designed to be
having smaller size through its all-in-one features and compact size design. It is perfect for those living
in apartments, where space is at a premium. Limiting the size also helps control cost. Based on the
information above, the price can be set to be around $300.

3. Competitor Analysis
3.1. “Laresar” Robot Vacuum Cleaner
It’s a comprehensive robot vacuum cleaner with robot station. The key advantage is the suction power,
it can reach maximum 3500 Pa Ultra suction power, for our product it is normally 3000 Pa. However,

2
EEEE3100_CWB_Business Plan_Group 8

with our advanced filtering system, even with less suction power, the pet hair reduction ability is better.
Also, this robot is equipped with new-generation LiDAR navigation technology, it allows the robot to
generate the house map 2 times quicker than Pet Butler. However, the excellent performance on cleaning
and navigation increases the cost of this product. In addition, because of the high-power consumption,
it has too much noise that will disturb pets’ rest.

Figure 3-1. The product diagram for “Laresar” Robot Vacuum Cleaner. [10]
3.2. Lefant P1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
This is a cleaning machine designed for home with pets. To be specific, it has a removable pet camera
to track the pets, and you can use the child’s voice to interact with pets using when your pet is alone at
home. In addition, the cleaning section is equipped with 5500Pa suction and powerful brushes designed
for pet hairs. However, there is no robot station designed for this robot to recharge and clear the dust
bag, so it’s cruise-ability is not good compared with the “Laresar”. The price for this product is also 500
pounds, which is not worth for just a “pet-care” machine with limited other functions.

Figure 3-2. The product diagram for Lefant P1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner. [11]
3.3. Pumpkii
This is a typical pet feeder machine for remote food distribution to pets. The robot is equipped with
special wheels to make its movement omnidirectional, compared with our product, it can achieve very
high mobility, and can be remotely controlled by owners through an APP. To enable the feeding variety,
the robot contains some external units like treat pod, robotic arm, and teasing feather, the users can self-
develop some interesting functions through a software development kit. Obviously, the ‘pure’ pet
interaction machine can’t provide any cleaning function, but our product will consider that part along
with the pet feeding.

4. Intellectual Property
4.1. Company name
The company name is “SmartPetHouse”. "Smart" emphasizes the company's focus on creating high-
tech and innovative smart home appliances for pets and owners. "Pet" indicates the company's services
for pets. "House" implies that the company's products are designed for use in the home environment.
4.2. Company logo
The company logo could be shown as Figure 4-1.
The combination of a pet and a house in the logo of “SmartPetHouse” shows that our target customers
are pet owners. In the context of the logo, the blue colour for the pet suggests that the company's
products could provide a calming and reliable presence for pets when their owners are away. The red
colour for the house suggests that the company's products could create a warm environment for pets.
The slogan "Happier pets, easier life" communicates a simple but powerful message of what the
company is all about. It is designed to appeal to pet owners who are looking for ways to simplify their
lives while still providing the best care for their pets.

Figure 4-1. The company logo.

4.3. IP position
The IP position of “SmartPetHouse” is in the smart home appliances for pets’ market, which
differentiates itself from other similar products in this market by considering the common needs of both
humans and pets.
Furthermore, “SmartPetHouse” IP approach of linking all its products via an app to build a smart home
environment is also a unique feature that sets it apart from other similar items in the market. This
provides a more convenient and efficient user experience, while also creating a more personalized and
safer environment for pets and pet owners.
4.4. IP protection
“SmartPetHouse” could protect its valuable intellectual property (IP) and prevent others from copying
or using its proprietary products and technologies by these measures:
– Patents: “SmartPetHouse” could file patents to protect its proprietary designs, software, and
hardware components. [13]
– Design right: The shape, surface, patterns, and colour of the electrical appliances designed by
“SmartPetHouse” can be recorded.
– Trademarks: “SmartPetHouse” could register trademarks for its company name, logo, and
product names to prevent other companies from using similar names or designs.
– Copyrights: “SmartPetHouse” could register copyrights for its written and visual materials to
prevent others from using or reproducing them without permission.
– Trade secrets: “SmartPetHouse” could take measures to protect its trade secrets, such as
limiting access to sensitive information, encrypting data, and monitoring employee behaviour.
It is important to note that IP protection can be a complex and ongoing process, and the company may
need to continually monitor and update its strategies to stay ahead of potential threats.
4.5. Similar items
There are already some products on the market such as robot vacuum cleaner [10], pet feeder machine
[12] and pet camera with phone app [14]. However, there are several differences between
“SmartPetHouse” products and these products.
First, these products only meet the requirements of pets or humans. However, our products will consider
the needs of both human and pets, which is the unique aspect of “SmartPetHouse” IP that can
differentiate its products from other similar items in the market.
Second, while there are other smart home products available for pets, “SmartPetHouse” approach is to
create a comprehensive and integrated solution that allows for easy management and control of all the

5
EEEE3100_CWB_Business Plan_Group 8

products via a single app. It can provide a more convenient and efficient user experience.
In summary, “SmartPetHouse” is unique and different with the rest of products.
4.6. Freedom to Operate
To determine the FTO of this IP, the company would need to conduct a thorough IP clearance search
and analysis. This would involve searching relevant patent, trademark, and copyright databases to
identify any existing IP rights that may overlap with the company's own IP. The search would also need
to consider any relevant legal precedents or licensing agreements that may impact the FTO. If the IP
clearance search reveals that “SmartPetHouse” may be infringing on existing IP rights, the company
would need to consider options such as licensing the rights or modifying its products. [15]

the normal company's operations and production.
Table 5-5. Year 5 Cash flow.

6. Risk Mitigation
6.1. Political
6.1.1. Political risk assessment
Our product fall into the category of everyday consumer electronics. This political instability could
come from the government, legislative bodies, other foreign policymakers, or military control. The
decision made by government for example, taxes, currency valuation, trade tariff, etc [16]. Our
suppliers and target customers from countries that are basically under a stable or normal state. Chinese
suppliers could provide parts from chips, sensor to motor and battery stably. Our target customer is
those people that own a house and work outside during daytime. We think the purchasing power of this
group of people will not reduce too much under negative policy.
6.1.2. Mitigation strategy
a) Standardize the behaviour of enterprises and operate legally. The board of directors needs to
establish a transparent and compliant management system and system to regulate the
company's behaviour and prevent the adverse influence caused by political risks.
b) Board members need to pay close attention to the political situation in each country and region,
to understand changes in policies, regulations and political events, and to develop strategies
accordingly.
c) Find suppliers worldwide, we can find other suppliers to replace the those affected by policies.
6.2. Social
6.2.1. Social risk assessment
Out product and company do not include any issue about labours’ human right violation. And our
company offer jobs in the local community, respect the local culture. Therefore, our company is a
socially responsible company.
6.2.2. Mitigation strategy
a) Manage social risks through corporate social responsibility (CSR). This includes build closer
relationships with local partners and stakeholders, increased transparency and public
reporting, closer monitoring of supplier.
b) Evaluating our business by Triple Bottom Line (TBL) from time to time [17].
6.3. Technological
6.3.1. Technical risk assessment
Our product needs to collect the users’ information by robot’s camera and lidar. Most worries come
from the information leakage. When the company face information security incidents like cyber-attacks,
service outage, consumers will concern about the safety of their information and property. And another
technical risk might rise by product quality, durability of the motor might be a potential quality risk of
our product.

10
EEEE3100_CWB_Business Plan_Group 8

6.3.2. Mitigation strategy

Strictly manage the technical risk, aiming to identify potential technology risks before they occur, and
implement methods to address [18]. Technical risk analysis, the team uses tools to identify and prioritize
technical risks so that they can assess and resolve them. Build local data center and supervise the data
with local government together.
6.4. Environmental
6.4.1. Environment risk assessment:
The common environment business risk items referred to include biological agents, Indoor Air Quality,
mould or microbial growth conditions [19]. Health and environment safety is our priority in production.
Our suppliers are all qualified producer in the industry. Our support used product recall policy and use
this method to reduce the pollution of waste products to the environment.
6.4.2. Mitigation strategy
Accept the supervision of the local environmental protection department, strictly abide by the law, and
donate part of the profits to local environmentally sustainable projects. Check the quality of products
regularly, especially easily accessible parts, e.g., the shell and brush.
6.5. Ethical
6.5.1. Ethical risk assessment
Business ethics problems arise when decisions, activities, or scenarios conflict with the ethical standards
of an organization or society. Both organizations and individuals may have ethical issues because others
may question their actions on ethical grounds. Complex ethical issues include diversity in line with an
organization's core values, compliance, governance, and empathetic decision making [20].
6.5.2. Mitigation strategy
We insist 6 most important business ethics in a typical workplace: fairness, respect, honesty,
accountability loyalty and integrity. We will assess both our company and the suppliers, to check
whether the legal rights and interests of employees are protected.
6.6. Most serious risk
Our team regard competition in market as the most serious risk. As soon as the same product come out,
we will face fierce market competition. When there are more manufacturers producing similar products,
the larger the scale of competition, the greater the market crisis. Especially if one of them starts the
price war, in which merchants cut prices in turn, creating a crisis in profit. In addition, we currently
have a single product range, which reduces the company's ability to withstand the risk of industry
changes. Therefore, in our plan, we decide to develop other smart furniture products.

7. Reflection on feedback from Business Plan Outline

In response to the first point in comment, we reviewed our product positioning and function emphasis.
As mentioned in the product purpose, our product focus on addresses the cleaning problem for family
with pets. At the same time, out product integrate the monitoring and remote interaction capability. In
the business plan, we compared our product with other cleaning and entertainment pet’s product
shown as Figure 3-1 and Figure 3-2. We can hardly find the similar product that combined these two
functions together. Our products aim to build a smart home environment when company developing
stronger, which is shown in Figure 5-5 and Figure 5-6. In determining the target population and
