Chapter 1

Introduction

The internet is a worldwide computer network made up of interconnected networks that use

defined communication protocols to provide a range of information and communication

services. Many people now are into utilizing internet to keep in touch with their friends and to

their families, to obtain some ideas or information and also to see some images and to watch

videos. It is likely to be observed that using the internet has truly become a key aspect of

peoples' daily lives.

Online selling is a top-tier business that can benefit from technology, especially when it

comes to selling (Lara 2019). Social media plays a significant role in this and facilitates

online shopping. The students don't need to go out and hang out, fight with heavy traffic, and

travel arduously through the mall in order to shop and get the items they require. A huge aid

in it is posting, advertising, and having a large following and friends on any form of social

media account.

i. Background of the study

Internet sales have developed as a modern trend in marketing and are increasingly taking on

significance in daily life. Online selling has seen a huge increase in recent years due to the

widespread use of e-commerce among dealers and those who have access to the internet.

The majority of online shoppers are young people or students, and the study explores how

this affects their attitudes toward online sales. As the internet has grown in popularity and as

more people use it to search and shop, it has become clear that the internet is the innovation

in information technology that has garnered the most attention.

Part-time job "provides opportunity to acquire increased responsibility, authority and

cooperative reliance," (Ronald D'Amico 1994). Part-time employment helps students build

their networking abilities, which will be useful for future job prospects.

inexpensive channel for delivering timely financial and non-financial information, displaying
non-finacial content, including elements such as images, presentations, video, and social

media features . In terms of online selling it has possibly effects to the students these kind of

stuff as far as they experiencing online selling for their financial stats. Signaling theory

represents the obtained process of engaging student into kind of business (Online Selling)

Review Related of Literature

i. Local Studies and Literature

The Investigation of E-commerce in this Gen Z

 Online selling or E-commerce had been in trend in this generation that greatly
affects the satisfaction of consumers. There are influencing factors in order to
measure the consumer satisfaction, such as the pricing, the quality of products,
security, availability, discount, shipping, and the accessibility of information.
According to Neil Patel, Customer satisfaction measures how your product,
service, and overall experience either falls short, meets, or exceeds customer
expectations. It is said that customer satisfaction has been identified as an
important phenomenon in relation to online shopping. The investigation of what
cause customer satisfaction has become paramount for online businesses.
Filipinos especially teenagers are known for being cautious in terms of
purchasing a product. They consider security, faster transaction or shipping,
product quality and availability, price and values, discount and the accessibility of
information (e.g using internet shops, website). Filipino consumers value online
shopping because of its convenience and accessibility. On the other hand, even if
the online mechanisms may provide easy to use and efficient methods of
shopping (Momtaz, Islam, Ariffin, & Karim, 2011), the customers may not opt for
them if those mechanisms do not meet their expectations.

 "E-Commerce Competencies of Filipino Senior High School Students:

Basis for Curriculum Enhancement"

There is limited published research specifically focused on the level of

experience of senior high school students as online sellers. However, there are
studies that have examined the general experience of students in online selling.

One study titled "E-Commerce Competencies of Filipino Senior High School

Students: Basis for Curriculum Enhancement" (Espina, 2020) investigated the e-
commerce competencies of senior high school students in the Philippines,
including their experience in online selling. The study found that the students had
basic knowledge and skills in online selling, but lacked experience in terms of
conducting transactions and managing online stores.

Another study titled "Online Entrepreneurship and Innovation among University

Students in Thailand" (Kreingkrai & Chancharat, 2019) explored the online
entrepreneurship experiences of university students in Thailand. While the study
did not specifically focus on senior high school students, it found that most
students had some experience in online selling, but lacked knowledge and skills
in areas such as online marketing and financial management.
Overall, it appears that senior high school students and university students in
some countries have some level of experience in online selling, but may need
further training and support to develop their competencies in this area. However,
more research is needed to fully understand the experiences and needs of senior
high school students as online sellers.

A Bank to Bank usage of Online Selling Producs

 Bank to bank transfer is the main usage of e-commerce in the Philippines for
large retailers and multinational corporations. A few of the business-to-consumer
activities that have developed over time include auctions, online shopping, and
online banking. Lacson, Pasadilla (2006). Philippine businesses have not yet
completely realized the benefits of e-commerce, which would enable them to
compete on both the domestic and international markets. These companies will
alter the way they conduct business as they get ready to engage in e-commerce.
The welfare of Filipino employees is anticipated to be impacted by these
changes. The U.S. and Europe, which are thought to be the leaders in e-
commerce, have been the focus of the majority of efforts to evaluate the
economic consequences of e-commerce, including those on workers' wellbeing.
According to Roberto (2002), the job demand for these sectors is likely to shift
away from agents and blue-collar workers and toward higher management and
executive staff as the nature of work shifts from the front to the back office.

Online Business ought of Technologies

 Start your Online Business Now is a corporation whose mission it is to assist

other individuals in starting their own enterprises, according to a report from
Katrina Tan (2007). It just launched the first online marketplace for products and
services in the Philippines, linking buyers and sellers through a website portal
that functions as a full-fledged virtual office. The main objective of the developer
ought to be to create technologies which improve efficiency inside the firm or
nation. As stated, the state must place a high focus on technological and
scientific education, training, and services as well as research, development,
invention, and innovation. It will promote the use of indigenous, appropriate, and
independent scientific and technology skills in the nation's economic and societal
systems. (Science and Technology, 1986, Article XIV, Section 10) George as
Online Marketing (2010) claims that there are in fact multiple benefits to product
advertising online. One is that your extensive coverage helps your company
contact more customers. The second is that the cost of online advertising is lower
than that of various kinds of traditional advertising. Third, internet marketing is
more effective than traditional methods of advertising because it is simple to
monitor and measure conversation.
A Potential growth of Online Seller in the Philippines

 According to Reyes (2019), online sellers in the Philippines have potential

growth. However, the hindrance to this achievement is the challenge of lacking
resources and the workforce. In addition to this, the drive for the online sellers
and small business owners to multitask. Tan (2014) asserted that multitasking is
not a good idea for internet businesses. Tan also noted that the human brain is
incapable of multitasking, particularly when one of the critical jobs, such as
processing orders while responding to customer messages and queries.
Maintaining and managing a small business requires a great deal of mental
energy. One of the issues that owners continue to face is multitasking. This,
however, has a detrimental influence on the company. Multitasking affects the
business in that it gives the impression that the owner is getting many things
done at once, but the quality of each activity decreases as a result. There are
also errors. Multitasking makes it challenging for the brain to focus. It disrupts
short-term memory and divides attention between all tasks that must be
completed. The brain is receiving less information. Multitasking, or the inability to
focus on one task at a time, causes stress to the owners. Brain drain occurs
when people switch their focus from one task to another. The number of jobs that
must be accomplished will decrease.

ii. Foreign Studies and Foreign Literature

 A study of Consumers Online Shopping Addiction during COVID-19.

According to the author the reasons for which one might prefer online shopping over real life
shopping includes these factors, lower prices, a variety of goods, time saved, ease of use,
entertainment, promotions, and impulsive behaviors in the shopper. According to the
researcher a number of individuals found themselves as an online shopping addict due to
lack of self-control (Günüç & Keskin 2016).
According to the researchers it is unquestionable that the digital revolution is the most
powerful influence on consumer behavior, and the internet’s impact will continue to extend
itself as more and more people will become internet users. Online shopping has become
easier since the applications used are available in your cell phones, and also one factor they
like online shopping is that everyone likes to surf the internet in their free time. ((Kaur,
Maheshwari, & Kumar 2019).

 An initiative of the online seller students as working students.

This study aims importance to know how to cope with academics and work by identifying
what their initiatives in handling both are. Learning how to cope with managing both is
important to their careers as working students since it determines their future on the platform
of business and their grades. Through the theme of initiative, the students knew the
importance of their education and business and came up with several ways to cope with
both of them. Additionally, they valued the mindset of not dropping their business and
academics, considering how difficult managing both at the same time. They made use of
their motivation, consistency, and the need to work and study because of their future goals
and self/family needs. The social media platforms proved to be a great help to the students
in determining their initiative on work and study. The working students also develop a set of
skills like having initiative in both their study and business. The working students may obtain
beneficiary skills that cannot be obtained at school. These skills could be beneficial in their
future aspects. Some skills such as knowing how to write business reports or soft skills. In
addition, the ability to work in teams, demonstrate punctuality, and other skills that could also
be general or sector-specific (Heckman et al., 2018).

 Perceived Risk And Intention To Purchase From Overseas Sellers In Shopee

 This study conducts Jabodetabek Consumer Perspective Daniel Silaban, Meiliana

Jaunanda, Ferry Ferdinand JMBI UNSRAT (Jurnal Ilmiah Manajemen Bisnis dan
Inovasi Universitas Sam Ratulangi). 7 (2), 2020 This study aims to examine the effect of
financial risk on purchase intention; effect of product risk on purchase intention; effect of
security risk on purchase intention; effect of time risk on purchase intention; effect of
delivery risk on purchase intention; and effect of psychology risk on purchase intention.
The target population Shopee users who have shown intention to conduct online
shopping from foreign sellers. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling.
The data was collected through questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least
Squares-Structural Equation (PLS-SEM) approach using SmartPLS program. The
results showed that financial risk, product risk, delivery risk and psychological risk have
significant impact toward purchase intention. The results also showed that security risk
and time risk have no significant impact toward purchase intention.

Geography still matters

 Examine the role of location in online markets for foreign branded products Xia
Zhao, Kexin Zhao, Jing Deng Decision Sciences 50 (2), 285-310, 2019 Internet
technologies and e‐commerce have significantly reduced communication and search
costs and facilitated trade between distant parties. It has been advocated that the
world becomes flat and geographic divisions are gradually irrelevant. However,
recent studies have identified a type of location advantage in online platforms, that is,
home bias. To further explore the role of geography in online markets, this study
investigates another type of location advantage, the country of origin (COO) effect for
online sellers. Using a large listing and transaction data set collected from both an e‐
commerce retail platform in China and the official Web sites of two foreign brands,
we examine the impact of geographic location on online sellers’ pricing strategies
and transaction quantities. Our research provides empirical evidence supporting the
existence of the COO effect for online sellers in the context of foreign branded
product exchanges. Furthermore, the results suggest that sellers’ location information
can be a substitute to their reputation and observable effort in facilitating online
transactions.

Impact of Purchasing Good Items in Online Selling

 This research indicates that the impact of these factors varies across different
regions of the world and across different product categories. Results of this research
highlight the need to tailor websites according to each world region and product
being offered for sale. Effectiveness of the consumer protection system upon
purchasing goods in online stores Iryna Y Puchkovska, Oleksandr O Biliaiev, Victor P
Yanyshen, Hanna O Urazova Journal of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of
Ukraine 28 (1), 137-146, 2021 Every year, the vast majority of countries switch to an
online environment. This is especially true for online stores. The subject of this study
is the system of consumer protection upon buying goods in online stores and its
effectiveness. The purpose is to analyse the state of development of e-commerce in
Ukraine and the system of consumer protection upon purchasing goods in online
stores. The following general scientific methods were used: classification and
theoretical generalisation–to study the theoretical foundations of e-commerce;
statistical analysis–to analyse the current state of e-commerce in Ukraine and the
consumer protection system. The following results were obtained: based on the
analysis of the provisions of current legislation and the experience of foreign
countries describing the development of the e-commerce market in Ukraine and the
world, the main trends that have developed have been identified, the positive and
negative aspects of e-commerce have been identified, as well as the effectiveness of
the consumer protection system upon purchasing goods in online stores. It was
concluded that the “e-commerce” industry is developing very dynamically. Consumer
protection upon purchasing goods through online stores is carried out as with a
regular purchase and sale, but it has a number of specific features. To attract
potential customers and build their trust, online stores try to post as much information
about their products and services as possible on their official websites, including
customer reviews. This indicates that the sellers themselves are interested in
resolving disputes as soon as possible and preserving their reputation. Taking this
into account, it is the improvement of the consumer literacy of citizens, the ability to
fully exercise their rights, and to protect their interests in case of certain
contradictions that is one of the ways to solve the existing problems.

Chapter 3
Methodology

Abstract

This study explores the level of experiences of senior high school students who engage in
online selling of products in Binangonan. The study aimed to determine the extent of their
knowledge and skills in online selling, the challenges they encounter, and the strategies they
use to overcome these challenges. A quantitative research design was used, and a survey
questionnaire was administered to 50 senior high school students who sell products online.
The results showed that most of the students have a moderate level of knowledge and skills
in online selling, and they face challenges such as competition, limited market reach, and
technical issues. To overcome these challenges, they use strategies such as offering unique
products, utilizing social media platforms, and seeking guidance from mentors. The study
provides insights into the experiences of senior high school students as online sellers and
can help educators and policymakers to develop programs that enhance their knowledge
and skills in online selling.

Research Design

The researchers used Quantitative research design in conducting this

research study entitled Level of Experiences of Senior High School Students’ Online Seller
in Binangonan in Selling Products.

The researchers used the quantitative research design concerning to the

interpretation and naturalistic approach to its matter. This method will assist the
researchers in gaining new insights that can support this study.

Research Locale

This research is conducted in Binangonan, Rizal. The respondents will be interviewed in the
school or any comfortable places that respondents will choose to.
The researchers also gathered respondents residing this title. These respondents will be
interviewed personally. The researchers chose the place of implementation because it will
give the researchers the needed information for people who’s experience the difficulties of
online selling to the students. The study will be conducted in the second semester of
academic year 2022 - 2023.

Sampling Method
This research will use non-profitability sampling methods. The researchers will collect the
data from the selected respondents. The researchers choose purposive sampling because
unlike random samples—which deliberately include a diverse cross-section of ages,
backgrounds, and cultures—the idea behind purposive sampling is to concentrate on people
with characteristics, who will enable to answer our research questions, like how they
experience they're challenges about online selling products as a student, is any challenges
on structuring/selling products.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers used different sources to collect the appropriate data.

Specifically, the related literature, came from the internet, books and other
possible sources, can support this study to become more valid, accurate, and
strong. Then the survey questionnaire form which consists of ten (10) questions
prepared by the researchers. The respondents were directed to put their own
statement that corresponds to their perceived answers.

Research Instrument

The researchers use questionnaires to conduct this study. It is a list of questions to answer
the Level of Experiences of Grade 12 Students Online Sellers in Binangonan. It's consist of
scale rating, this the best way to collect the data that is needed for the study. This will help
the researchers to easily understand and intrepret the data collected.

Validation of Instrument

It takes skill and deliberate planning to create a questionnaire that is valuable,

understandable, and generalizable. The questionnaire's value resides in measuring the
results of the preliminary exploratory stage. Questions can be closed-ended (Y/N type) or
open-ended (descriptive answer type). A questionnaire must be accurately interpreted by
respondents or participants in order to be considered valid. So, the appropriate response is
sought. Questions must to be clear and uncomplicated. Before conducting the main study,
the validity and reliability of the questions should be tested using a pilot study. Questions
should be developed considering all ideas linked to the purpose. 2016 (Jain et al.).

Statistical Treatment
Once the data had been collected, it had been assembled, categorized, arranged, and
tabulated. To respond to the questions presented in the study, they underwent statistical
analysis. The frequency distribution, percentage, and weighted mean were the statistical
methods used.

1. Frequency distribution is an arrangement of the data which shows the frequency of

different values or groups of variables.
2. Percentage is to be used to determine the proportion of each given data by using the
formula.

% = (F/N) X 100
Where: % = Percentage
F = No. of respondents
N = total number of cases

3. Weighted means are used to calculate the average value of the data.

W = weighted average
n = number of terms to be averaged
W_i = weights applied to x values
X_i = data values to be averaged
