RR Avon 1534 2

This document provides information about a mobile power generation set consisting of a gas turbine driving an AC generator and exciter. The complete installation is mounted on main and auxiliary trailers for transport. The gas generator is a liquid-fueled Rolls-Royce Avon maxi type 1533-10LL that can start without external AC supply. It drives a single-stage power turbine connected to a speed-reducing gearbox that powers a horizontal salient pole AC generator. The system is designed to supply 10.3 MW base power and up to 16 MW peak power depending on ambient temperature and conditions.

INTRODUCTION AND DATA DESIGN

Each generating set consists of and Avon-powered gas turbine driving A/C generator
and exciter through a speed reducing gearbox supplying 10.3 mw base, 16 mw peak
(depending on ambient temperature) at 13.8 KV. 60 Hz and is designed for starting
without and external A/C supply.

The complete installation is mounted on a main and auxiliary trailer designed for
transporting all the necessary equipment by road to any site where it is desired to
provide and additional or emergency mains power supply. The plant controls are
located in a control room at the front of the auxiliary trailer.

The gas generator is a liquid fueled Rolls-Royce Avon maxi type 1533-10LL.

For starting the gas generator is rotated by a 120V D/C motor enclosed within the
intake hub fairing. The starter drive incorporates a self-engaging ratchet mechanism.

The power turbine is a single stage unit driven by Avon gas generator exhaust gases.

Power turbine is a single exhaust gases pass through an exhaust duct and silencer to
and exhaust stack which discharges the gases to the atmosphere. A splitter type
silencer reduces exhaust noise to an acceptable level.

The speed-reducing gearbox is driven by the power turbine through a shaft

with flexible couplings. The gear is suitable for full continuous running and can
withstand 10% overloads for abort periods. It uses single helical, inviolate gear
supported by plain white metal bearings.

The A/C generator is a horizontal salient pole, brushless machine. Excitation

is by a revolving armature brushless generator complete with rotation rectifiers and a
plot exciter integral with the main exciter. The generator is totally enclosed and
cooled by a closed air system. The gas turbine is a fuel-controlled engine, so that the
constant conditions of load and ambient atmospheric qualities, engine speed is
directly related to the amount of fuel supplied to the gas generator. A Change load
requires a related change in fuel supplied to maintain a constant output system and
constant A/C frequency the system embodies and electronic governor unit, which
monitors critical performance qualities.
