Sports
Sport is very important in our life. It can protect our health, our body, refresh the mint,
strengthen us inside and outside, and not to talk about the reduction of/csökkenés/ the daily
stress. During the centuries and millenniums/ezredév/, people invented/feltalál/ several
kinds of sports with different moves, rules, equipment and requirements. Some are
dangerous, some are not, your choice may depend on your physical abilities and the fact
how adventurous/vakmerő/ you are.
There are …-extreme sports for the adrenaline lovers,
like: hiking, windsurfing, scuba diving or parachuting/ejtőernyőzés/
-slow sports which need more concentration and more use of your brain,
for example: chess and golf
-martial arts/harcművészetek/ and their branches/ágazatai/
… and the list could go on for long pages
I am interested in sports, especially athletics. I consider this to be the king of sports, But I
also like watching sports competitions of figure skating or ball games. Unfortunately, I don’t
do much thing to keep myself fit. I am not really involved in regular sports activity because I
have to admit that I can’t bring myself to do exercise on a regular basics. However, I know
doing sports is very important for our mental and physical health, so I try to do some
stretching exercise or yoga as often as I can, but unfortunately, I’m not enough determined
to do it every day.
Luckily, in our school we have a lot of opportunities to pursue sports/sportolni/. There is a
fair-sized gym and two sports grounds behind the building. Our gym is quite well-equipped,
we have nearly all the apparatus we need for gymnastics. There are wall balls, climbing
ropes, several balls and other special equipments. We have 5 P.E. lessons a week, which is I
think fully enough to move our muscles after sitting long hours at the school desk and going
numb/elzsibbadni/. In these lessons, it depends on the weather what kind of exercises we
do. When it’s rainy and cold, we play ball games or do some exercise at the gym. But when
it’s good, we play outdoor games on the football field or run on the tracks around. However,
one thing is always the same, in the beginning of the lessons, we always do some warm-up
exercises in order to avoid injuries. Sometimes we also do some aerobics to music.
The basic winter sports are skiing, including ski-jumping, slalom racing, downhill and cross-
country skiing, skating and bob sleighing. I am keen on watching winter sports. My favorite
one is figure skating, especially ice dancing. But I also enjoy watching the skiers with their
great speed and swift movements. In fact, all winter sports are very spectacular. In Hungary,
as far as I know, there is a ski-run in the Bakony Hills. This ski run is on a slope that’s not very
steep, so children can toboggan freely at the foot of the hill. What’s more you can skate on
Lake Balaton if it freezes over.
Aquatic sports include all sports done in or on water. Water-polo, high-diving, snorkeling,
swimming, rowing, sailing and wind-surfing are all aquatic sports. As for swimming, there are
different strokes, for example breaststroke, butterfly stroke, the crawl and the backstroke.
I would say that Hungarians are good at water sports in general, like swimming or rowing,
but we are also quite good at handball and football. Our selected players as well as the
individual teams often get into the finals or semi-finals of the European or World
Championships. As for England, the most typical games are cricket, rugby, football, golf,
tennis and perhaps darts.
Everybody has a reason why they take up/belekezd/ different sports. The main reasons are
health problems or worries about their shape or body. But there are also people who put
more emphasis on sport and do it as a first-class sport/élsport/. Their main aim is to race and
to become better and better than the day before.
Leisure sports/szabadidősportok/: golf, different kinds of dances, skiing…
Sports that you do in order to keep your body and mind fit and healthy.
First-class sports/élsportok/: running, athletics, football…
Sports that you do not only in order to keep yourself fit, but also to race and to be the best
in your sport. In these sports, the emphasis on racing.
Dangerous sports/veszélyes sportok/: scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkeling…
Sports that give you much more adrenalin than other types of sports, and these kinds of
sports not exactly moves every part of your body, but it’s aim to feel yourself good.
