E193004 Micro Wave Lab 01
Experiment Name: Design, Simulation, and Analysis of coaxial transmission line using CST
microwave Studio Suite.
Objective:
1. Apply the knowledge of the Coaxial Transmission Line in designing it and analyzing its
behavior.
2. Consult video instructions and materials, design experiments, and simulate, analyze and
interpret results to investigate the effect of different design parameters on the final design.
3. Use CST Studio Suite to simulate designs and experiments related to coaxial transmission
lines.
Required Components:
1. Desktop/Laptop with CST STUDIO Software installed.
Theory:
A transmission line is a connector that transmits energy from one point to another. The study of
transmission line theory is helpful in the effective usage of power and equipment. While
transmitting or receiving, the energy transfer has to be done effectively, without the wastage of
power.
To achieve this, there are certain important parameters that have to be considered. There
are basically four types of transmission lines –

Result Analysis:
Analyzing the 1D results, we can see that because of the reflection coefficient there was only 0.67%
power loss in port 1 and port 2. Also, about 99.88% of power was transferred through the line.
Lastly, 0.499W of the generated 0.5W power was outgoing from the ports.
Discussion: This session taught us how to use the CST microwave studio suite to design and
simulate a coaxial transmission line. We also learned about transmission lines. We first calculated
the parameters to match 50 impedance using the "calculate analytical line impedance" tool, and
we discovered that the inner conductor diameter should be 3.4mm and the dielectric should be
between 3.4mm and 11.385mm. The inner and outer conductors were then made of pure copper,
while the dielectric was made of lossless PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), also known as Teflon.
The pick face feature was used to add the waveguide ports. The solver was then configured, and
the simulation was run. Based on the analysis of the results, we can conclude that the designed
coaxial transmission
