OSID
FIRE ALARM Open-area Smoke Imaging
SYSTEM Detection
23
Open-area Smoke Imaging Detection
▪ Dual frequency beams
▪ Digital imaging versus photodiodes
▪ Ball & Socket arrangement
▪ Smart algorithms
▪ Diagnostic tools
© 2015 by Honeywell International Inc. All rights reserved.
24
OSID – Principle of Operation
▪ An active Emitter with wide beam LEDs
transmit 2 different wavelengths IR and
UV to the Imager
▪ Intelligent software locates the specific
pixels on the multi pixel CMOS Imager
illuminated by the uniquely coded
Emitter
▪ Relative strengths of the 2 wavelength
signals are compared to detect smoke
and discriminate against nuisance
alarm particulates
▪ Building movement and alignment is
managed by Imager software without
any need for controlled motor drives
© 2015 by Honeywell International Inc. All rights reserved.
25
Imager versus Photo Diode
▪ OSID ‘sees’ the protected
area.
▪ One Imager equals
100.000’s of photodiodes
▪ An Imager locates and 1 2
tracks the position of an
Emitter anywhere in its field
of view at pixel level
▪ OSID can operate reliably
in all lighting conditions;
bright day/ sunlight to total
Emitters
darkness

26
What does OSID bring to the table?
▪ Faster detection than single wavelength beams
▪ Simple installation, commissioning and maintenance
▪ Long range detection
▪ High tolerance to vibration and structural
movement
▪ High resistance to dust, fogging, steam,
reflections and object intrusion
▪ High resistance to reflected sunlight
▪ Aesthetically discreet and 3D coverage
▪ Unique, unprecedented diagnostic tools
© 2015 by Honeywell International Inc. All rights reserved.
27
Higher sensitivity - faster detection
▪ UV is prime detection wavelength
▪ 20% obscuration over 490 ft/150 m
UV is 50% more sensitive 33 %
than IR to detect flaming fire
20 %

28
Simple Installation
▪ Simple and easy installation using a unique Laser
Alignment Tool
• No need for precise alignment due to the wide angle
of view of the Imager(s)
• Complex and time consuming alignment tools not
needed. “Laser screwdriver” for quick and easy
alignment
• System can be aligned without powering the units with
or without support bracket
▪ NO control ground station required
▪ Ball & Socket arrangement
• Wide range of vertical and horizontal adjustment
• Fits all walls, no need for adjustment brackets
Up to 70% time saving compared to
traditional beams

32
Operates over long ranges
▪ Reliably detecting at 656 ft/200 m
▪ Allows for 20% sensitivity setting at
656 ft/150 m
▪ Can operate through metal support
structure of the roof with a minimal
free view between Imager and
Emitters of ø 20 cm/7,8” .
20 cm/7,8”
5,85 “/15 cm
OSID outperforms beams
with 50%

33
High tolerance to structural movement
and vibration
▪ OSID guarantees a minimum of
2° in all directions of building flex
• Best competitive beams gives a
false alarm at 0.6° misalignment
▪ OSID has no risk of missing a
slow burning fire because of the
rate of compensation
• OSID relies on 2 different
wavelengths to recognize smoke
from building movement
Flex tested up to 4°without issues

34
High resistance to reflected sunlight
▪ The Imager resistance is based
on two techniques
• IR and UV filter at the Imager
• Background subtraction
When fully exposed to the sun
OSID will only give a fault
© 2015 by Honeywell International Inc. All rights reserved.
35
Aesthetically discreet and 3D coverage
▪ Up to 7 Emitters may be used
at the same time with a single
Imager
▪ Emitters can be positioned at
multiple elevations
▪ Emitters can be added later

36
Unique, unprecedented diagnostic tools
▪ On-board event log in the Imager
▪ Industry first and unique to the beam market
▪ Memory stores 10k events
▪ Stores data identical to the Diagnostic log files with time
and date stamp
▪ Provides a wealth of information surrounding an alarm,
fault or any significant change
▪ Events and data retrieved by OSID Diagnostic SW tool
▪ Data can be analysed and plotted revealing; IR/UV
attenuation, beam positioning, temperature, reference
signals, contamination, loop voltage etc.

FIRE
SUPPRESSION
SYSTEM
What is Clean Agent Fire Suppression System? 42
Use of inert gases and chemical/synthetic agents to extinguish a fire is called as clean
agent fire suppression system.
Chemical agents HFC-227ea & FK-5-1-12 are waterless agents/gases, which gets discharged into the risk
area within 10 seconds and suppresses the fire immediately ( within 10 Sec).
Diagram shows the integration with Fire Detection System
© 2015 by Honeywell International Inc. All rights reserved.
Why Clean Agent Fire Suppression System is necessary? 43
When the challenge is,
- Class A, C & D type Fires
- Wet Systems like Sprinklers, Deluge systems can’t be
used due to Electrical equipments
- Controlling Oxygen.
Purpose,
Fire Triangle - Portable Dry Powder Extinguishers, CO2 flooding system,
some wet Extinguishers, Inert Gases remove “Oxygen”
from Fire to extinguish.
- Sprinklers, Clean Agents remove “Heat” from the Fire
situation
- Removal of Fuel is usually a challenge in Fire situations,
hence, normally “Oxygen” or “Heat” is removed /
targetted to control / douse the Fire.
Remove any one and Fire gets “extinguished” - Server Rooms, Critical Control Rooms, Substations,
Switch Rooms etc. requires Gas based suppression
system

Types of Fire 44
Not all fires are
the same. Per
NFPA 10,
burning may be
classified into
one or more of
the following
fire classes and
the fire
protection
specialist must
select the right
fire
extinguishing
system for the
hazard.

SYSTEM
ECS- DLP | System Working
Cylinder with clean agent is connected to one end of the
heat detection tube, the tube is laid inside the cabinet &
enclosure. On detecting a temperature of 110°C or above
heat detection tube de-pressurizes itself to the
atmospheric pressure & ruptures it at the source of
fire/heat.
The clean agent from the cylinder system flows through
the Heat Detection Tube & get released from the ruptured
hole. The fire is quickly suppressed just moments after it
began, hence minimizing damage and downtime
This most innovative technology makes this system fully
automatic. It requires no power & human intervention
specially applicable for “micro-environments”where the fire
hazard likely to be in the enclosed space

FULLY AUTOMATIC FAST DETECTION
▪ Automatically detects and suppresses fire ▪ Get Installed directly inside electrical cabinets –
▪ No external power or Human intervention required closer to where a fire can start

ECS- ILP | System Working
▪ Cylinder is pressurized at 16.5 Bar with Nitrogen & filled up
with clean agent FK-5-1-12
▪ The heat detection tube is connected on the cylinder valve
(as shown in the picture). The discharge pipe with discharge
nozzles is connected to the discharge outlet port of the
cylinder valve (as shown in the picture)
▪ Heat detection tube is laid inside the electrical cabinet & on
detecting a temperature of 110°C or above, this heat
detection tube de-pressurizes itself to the atmospheric
pressure (1Bar) by releasing the nitrogen from it.
▪ On activation, the clean agent from the cylinder flows through
the discharge pipe & get released through the discharge
nozzles inside the electrical cabinet & suppression the fire
immediately by flooding the entire cabinet.
This system requires no power & human intervention specially
applicable for “micro-environments” where the fire hazard likely
to be in the enclosed space
*An independent ½” black steel/flexible seamless pipe, schedule 40, ASTM A53, Grade B, shall be used for delivery of the FK-5-12
