Plasticbrick 190603072205

This document presents a process for making bricks using waste plastics and river sand. The objective is to effectively use large amounts of hazardous plastic waste and reduce construction costs. Plastic waste, river sand, and red oxide are mixed and molded into bricks. Testing shows the plastic bricks have higher compressive strength yet lower water absorption than clay bricks. The plastic bricks also help reduce pollution by utilizing waste plastics.

INTRODUCTION

 Plastics can be made to different shapes when

they are heated in closest environment

 It exists in the different forms such as cups,

furniture’s, basins, plastic bags, food and
drinking containers, and they are become waste
material.

plastic brick
 Accumulation of plastic wastes can result
into hazardous effects to both human and
plant life.

 Waste management in respect to plastic can

be done by recycling.

plastic brick
OBJECTIVE

 To make use of the large hazardous waste plastic

in an effective manner.

 To reduce the cost of construction materials by

using cost effective brick.

plastic brick
RAW MATERIALS

1. Waste plastics
 plastics can be made to different shapes when
they are heated. in closest environment
 it exists in the different forms such as cups,
furniture’s, basins, plastic bags, food and
drinking containers, and they are become waste
material

plastic brick
 Accumulation of these waste is a great threat
to both humans and environment.

plastic brick
2. River sand
 it is naturally occurring granular material which is
composed of mineral particles and finely divided
material.
 The composition of sand varies depending on the
local rock conditions and sources, but the most
constituent of sand is silica dioxide (Sio2) in the
form of quartz.
 Sand are now used in all the construction process.

3. Red oxide

 It is an inorganic compound with the formula Fe2O3.

 It is one of the three main oxides of iron, the other

two being iron (II) oxide (FeO), which is rare, and

iron (II, III) oxide (Fe3O4), which also occurs

naturally as the mineral magnetite.

 As the mineral known as hematite, Fe2O3 is the main

source of iron for the steel industry

PROCESS OF WASTE
COLLECTION

plastic brick
 The properties of red oxide is to make color to the
bricks.

 They are red, odorless and their density is 5.26 g/cm3.

their melting point is also at 2851 degrees Fahrenheit.

plastic brick
PLASTIC CHARACTERISTICS
 Plastic is a good binder

 Easy to work and shape.

 Have a low production cost.

 Possess low density

plastic brick
 Tend to be waterproof,

 Good electrical insulators*

 Acceptable acoustic and thermal insulation.

2.Efflorescence test

o The presence of alkalis in bricks is harmful and

they form a grey or white layer on brick surface by
absorbing moisture.

o The plastic sand brick has low alkali content and

so a little white patch is formed over the surface

plastic brick
3.Fire resistance test

 The Plastic is highly susceptible to fire

 but in case of Plastic sand bricks, the presence of sand

imparts insulation.

 There is no change in the structural properties of block

of bricks up to 180oC above which visible cracks are
seen and the /bricks deteriorate with increase in
temperature.
plastic brick
4. Hardness test

 In this a scratch is made on brick surface

with steel rod

 Difficult to made scratch on the bricks.

 This shows the brick possess high quality.

plastic brick
ADVANTAGES
 Use high percentage of plastic waste
 Reduce the need for natural resources.
 Compressive strength can be achieved at low cost of
production
 New deleveopment of technology which is eco
friendly
 Pollution can be reduce at a great extend

plastic brick
CONCLUSION
 Plastic brick would be a boon for India's hot and
extremely humid climate where durable and ecofriendly
bricks will relive the earth from plastic waste .

 The Plastic sand bricks possess more advantages which

include Cost efficiency, Removal of waste products
Reduction in the emission of greenhouse etc

plastic brick
 This method is suitable for the countries which has the
difficult to dispose or recycle the plastic waste.
 The natural resources consumed for the manufacturing of
Plastic sand bricks and Paver blocks are very much less
when compared to its counterparts
 The manufacturing cost could be reduced further by
replacing the river sand with fly ash/quarry dust or other
waste products.
