The history of power systems began with great innovations from scientists like Faraday, Edison, and Tesla. Edison developed the first DC power system but it was limited to short distances due to voltage drop over long wires. Tesla invented the modern AC power system, which uses step-up and step-down transformers to transmit power over long distances at high voltages with lower current and voltage drop. This system design with centralized power plants and transmission lines is the basis for power grids used worldwide today.
