Nowadays, English is increasingly used in many areas of human knowledge and interaction: literature, music, sports, business, science, technology and of course education. Thus,
learning English has become a complement of any program of studies at different levels in any part of the world. In Universidad Nacional de Loja, it is a subject that completes the

majoring studies of all degree programs and it is part of the Communication and Languages Training field within the Basic Unit of Curricular organization of all UNL degree programs.
The aim of learning English in academic contexts is ultimately to successfully use the language for communication and professional development; it means for the learner to be able to
use the language and to have knowledge of how it is used in different contexts. English is conceived, therefore, both as a tool and a way of gaining knowledge and personal insight of the
world through the culture of the foreign language.
Language skills addressed include: listening comprehension, fluency development, oral intelligibility, reading, grammar, writing, and vocabulary development and a balance of receptive
(reading, listening) and productive (speaking, writing) skills are developed through communicative classes and self‐study tasks.
The linguistic contents and communication abilities developed in this course are aligned with the Basic User Level A2.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language
Learning, Teaching, and Assessment (CEFR) through the development of the four language skills.
2.2. CONTRIBUCIÓN DE LA ASIGNATURA AL LOGRO DE LOS RESULTADOS DE APRENDIZAJE DEL PERFIL DE EGRESO:
Inglés 1 contents and skills are aligned with the CEFR A2.2 level, which means that it focuses on learning the most important, everyday language in order to survive in a new language
community. The ultimate goal of the English learning program of the Institute of Languages at UNL, is to aid students gain a language proficiency level that enables them to cope
independently in educational settings as well as to use the language they are learning as a means to enhance continuous learning. Thus, Inglés 1 contribution to reach that proficiency
level lies on gradually provide students with the linguistic content and tools necessary to achieve the corresponding level of linguistic competence-performance. With this, the objective
of the subject is not limited only to provide linguistic content but also to prepare the student in the development of learning strategies that allow him to reach the required level within
the programmed academic sequence.
