LEGO EV3 Centipede Guide

These building instructions are released freely and allow modification and reuse of ideas with proper attribution. You can distribute the instructions unchanged but not sell them or claim authorship. The instructions build a modular centipede robot with flexible legs scaled from another design. It can be powered by any motor and works better with lighter components than the EV3 brick used for testing.

The following pages contain building instructions for the EV3 Centipede.
Only the leg mechanism is included. This mechanism was developed by
Isogawa Yoshihito and was scaled up to fit this model.

The EV3 Centipede is modular, so you can include as few or many legs as
you want.

The drive can be done through any Lego motor and power supply. You
can probably use a wind-up motor. It was tested with the EV3 brick, which
is fairly heavy and affects the motion a little bit. Anything lighter will improve
performance.

The flexible shielding in the cover picture is optional – the model works
without it.
