Dear UCSD New Grad RN Hiring Manager,
As a graduating senior from the University of Arizona College of Nursing, I am thrilled to learn that
UCSD Health is hiring for their New Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program. I believe my
empathetic heart and drive for helping others will make me an excellent addition to the UCSD Nursing
staff and the New Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program.
Growing up, I had the innate instinct to provide a helping-hand to those around me. As I grew older, I
started looking for more opportunities to care for others, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in
nursing where I could fulfill my lifelong passion of supporting the health and well-being of others. During
my preceptorship at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, I tapped into my strengths of compassion, knowledge,
and intuition to build therapeutic rapport and supportive relationships with my patients. In addition to
caring for these patients independently, I became their advocate and collaborated with interdisciplinary
healthcare teams to ensure they were receiving the highest quality of care. I also had the opportunity to
collaborate with ICU nurses from the rapid response team when my patient’s health was deteriorating. I
have learned to focus on seeing my patients for more than their illness and instilling hope in them for the
future. My experiences have reassured me that nursing will continue to fuel my drive to improve the lives
of others while staying true to my work ethics of fostering love, patience, and kindness in all that I do.
The mission and values that serve as the foundation for UC San Diego Health align with my values as a
nurse, specifically, the focus on the commitment to the health and wellness of the community. Throughout
my experience in clinical rotations and interning for the nonprofit organization, Grow 2b Fit, I had
opportunities to serve underprivileged communities in Arizona. In addition to hands-on, patient-centered
care with a focus on evidence-based practice, I utilized my creative mindset to make and distribute
educational resources for patients and their families, focusing on proper nutrition, exercise, and a
balanced lifestyle for the holistic individual. My experience serving the community has reiterated to me
the importance of promoting and advocating for quality health care in a diverse range of populations and
to empower people to live a quality life of health and happiness.
I would be honored to begin my nursing career at the prestigious UC San Diego Health, where I would
continue to learn and grow into the best nurse and unified member of a diverse and qualified medical
team that I can be. I am confident that with my compassionate heart and eagerness to improve the health
of others, I am an ideal candidate for the New Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program. Thank you
for your time and your consideration for this opportunity. I look forward to speaking with you regarding
the New Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program.
Sincerely,
Cara Engstrom
