Prayers in Islam

There are 5 mandatory daily prayers in Islam - Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. Each prayer consists of reciting passages from the Quran, bowing and kneeling at certain points. Fajr is performed before sunrise and has 2 units of prayer. Dhuhr is at noon and has 4 units, while Asr is in the late afternoon and also has 4 units. Maghrib is just after sunset and has 3 units. Prayers in Islam

Fajr Prayer:
This is the pre-dawn prayer that Muslims perform before sunrise. It consists of two rak'ahs
(units) and is an obligatory prayer. The following is a sample prayer:

Allahu Akbar (God is the greatest) – Stand and say this while raising your hands to the level of
your shoulders.
Recite Surah Al-Fatihah – This is the opening chapter of the Quran and is recited in every
rak'ah.
Recite another surah or a portion of it.
Ruku – Bow down and say "Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem" (Glory be to my Lord, the Almighty).
Stand up straight and say "Sami Allahu liman hamidah" (Allah hears those who praise Him).
Sujud – Prostrate and say "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High).
Sit up straight and repeat the sujud.
Say Tashahhud – Recite the declaration of faith.
Say Salam – Turn your head to the right and say "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" (peace
and mercy of Allah be upon you) and then turn to the left and repeat the same phrase.

Dhuhr Prayer:
This is the noon prayer that Muslims perform after the sun has passed its zenith. It consists of
four rak'ahs and is an obligatory prayer. Here is a sample prayer:

Allahu Akbar – Stand and say this while raising your hands to the level of your shoulders.
Recite Surah Al-Fatihah.
Recite another surah or a portion of it.
Ruku – Bow down and say "Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem".
Stand up straight and say "Sami Allahu liman hamidah".
Sujud – Prostrate and say "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la".
Sit up straight and repeat the sujud.
In the second and fourth rak'ahs, sit after the second sujud and recite Tashahhud and Salawat
(prayers upon the Prophet Muhammad).
Say Salam.

Asr Prayer:
This is the afternoon prayer that Muslims perform in the late afternoon. It consists of four rak'ahs
and is an obligatory prayer. Here is a sample prayer:

Allahu Akbar – Stand and say this while raising your hands to the level of your shoulders.
Recite Surah Al-Fatihah.
Recite another surah or a portion of it.
Ruku – Bow down and say "Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem".
