1. What is a Deceptive Advertisement?

Any sort of advertising that is inaccurate, misleading, or has the effect of fooling consumers

is considered deceptive advertising. An advertisement can be false in several ways, including the

price, quantity, quality, time, dates, and availability of the product. It also includes not only false

claims or facts regarding the product but also false facts about the deals and sales on how the

product is presented to the consumers. Even if the ad's creator did not intend for it to be misleading,

it might still be considered deceptive and if the ad contains an error, a misleading advertising claim

can be made (Rivera, 2018).

2. Cite one example of a Deceptive Advertisement in the Philippines and explain fully what

specific words/phrases that constitute deception to viewers.

In this digital age, deceptive advertisement has been present in the Philippines across

different social media platforms where it is easy to upload any content and it is not only happening

with advertising products but also with political advertising. From YouTube channels fronting as

a showbiz channel, if left unchecked, could continue in perpetuating deceptive narratives, or even

revise history. One example is a celebrity, Toni Gonzaga, in an interview with former senator

Bongbong Marcos, her platform with five million subscribers as of writing has allowed the late

dictator’s son to spew lies regarding Philippine history (Tuquero, 2021).

3. In what way Truth can be sustained amidst Deceptive Advertisement? Provide

substantive reasons.

There are several ways in which truth can be retained amidst the pervasive false advertising

in the country. When buying products, availing services, or choosing who to follow, consumers

must attempt to learn more regarding what they are buying, availing, or choosing. It is critical to

learn what is truly true and when confronted with fresh information, it is necessary to employ

critical thinking (JoshS, 2021). Laws regarding deceptive and misleading advertising must be

exercised fairly and truthfully. Strengthening laws like this will not only help consumers but could

also encourage businesses to not consider false advertising.
