1) File Transfer Protocol ( FTP ): provides insecure file transfer.

2) Secure Shell ( SHH ): Provides secure remote control of another machine using a
text-based enviroment. Port 22
3) Telnet : Provides insecure remote control of another machine using a text-based
enviroment. Port 23
4) Simple Mail Transfer Protocol ( SMTP ): Provides the ability to send emails over
the network. Port 25
5) Domain Name Service ( DNS ): Converts domain names to IP addreses, and IP
address to domain names. Port 53
6) Dynamic Host Control Protocol ( DHCP ): Automatically provides network
parameters to your clients, such as their assigned IP adress, subnet mask, default
gateway, and the DNS server they should use. Ports 67,68
7) Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP): Used as a lightweight fle transger method
for sending configuration files or network booting of am operating system. Port 69
8) Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP): Used for insecure web browsing. Port 80
9) Post Office Protocol Version Three ( POP3): Used for receiving incoming emails.

10) Network Tme Protocol ( NTP): Used to keep accurate time for clients on a

11) Network Basic Input/ Output System ( NetBIOS): Used forfile or priter sharing

12) Interney Mail Application Protocol ( IMAP ): A newer method of retrieving
incoming emais which improves upon the older POP3. Port 143
13) Simple Network Managment Protocol ( SNMP ): Used to collect data about network
devices and monitor their status. Ports 161, 162.
14) Lightweight Directory Acces Protocol ( LDAP ): Used to provide directory
services to your nework. Port 389
15) Hypertext Tansfer Protocol- Secure (HTTPS): Used for secure webbrowsing. Port
443. SSL( Secury Socket Layer), TLS( Transport Layer Security)
16) Server Message Block ( SMB ): Used for Windows file and printer sharing
services. Port 445
17) System Logging Protocol ( Syslog ): Used to send logging data back to a
centralized server. Port 514
18) Simple Mail Transfer Protocol Transport Layer Security ( SMTP TLS ): Secure and
encrypted way to send emails. Port 587
19) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol- Secure ( LDAPS ): Provides secure
directory services. Port 636
20) Internet Message Access Protocol over SSL (IMAP over SSL ): Secure and
encrypted way to receive emails. Port 993
21) Post Office Protocol Version 3 over SSL ( POP3 over SSL ): Secure and encrypted

22) Structured Query Language Server Protocol ( SQL ): Used for communication from
a cliet to the database engine. Port 995
23) SQLnet Protocol: Used for communication from a client o an Oracle database.

24) MySQL: Used forr communication from a client to the MySQL database engine. Port

25) Remote Desktop Protocol ( RDP ): Provides graphical remote control of another
client or server. RDP provides a full grahpical user interface. Port 3389
26) Session Initiation Protocol ( SIP ): Used to iniate VoIP and video calls. Ports
5060,5061.
