QUESTION ONE
(a) Differentiate between system analysis and system design. [4 marks]

(b) (i) Define the term feasibility studies [1 mark]

(ii) Describe THREE types of feasibility studies for information systems. [6 marks]

(c) Information System design entails both logical and physical design. Explain.

(d) (i) Describe the significance of the testing stage in information systems development.
[3 marks]

(ii) Describe THREE types of information systems testing strategies.


[6 marks]

(e) A school employs the following conditions when collecting fees from students: Student
with bursaries pay half fees, students with scholarships pay full fess, students who are
poor without bursaries and scholarships pay no fees, students who are rich without
bursaries and scholarships pay full fees. Construct a decision table for the scenario.

QUESTION TWO
(a) Key management issues in building information systems is their success. Explain
THREE indicators of successful information systems projects. [6 marks]

(b) Describe THREE causes of information systems failure in enterprises. [6 marks]

(c) Describe FOUR conversion strategies highlighting one advantage and one disadvantage
for each. [6 marks]

(d) Differentiate between functional requirements and non functional requirements in


development of systems. [2 marks]

QUESTION THREE
(a) Using appropriate examples describe any THREE factors that could affect maintenance
of information systems. [6 marks]

(b) Describe any HTREE shortfall associated with prototyping as model for system
development. [6 marks]

(c) The Railway Training Institute is considering implementation of a computer based


system to help administer lending of books and journal in the library.
(i) Identify any FOUR stakeholders in this project [2 marks]

(ii) The management of the Institute is of the opinion that it would be cheaper to
obtain an off the shelf package other than an inhouse development. Describe any
THREE factors that management should put into consideration as they make
their decision. [3 marks]

(d) State any THREE types of maintenance that can be adopted in computer systems.
[3 marks]

QUESTION FOUR
Using your University as an example;
(a) List the relevant external entities, processes, data stores and data flows for a student
registration system. [4 marks]

(b) Draw a context diagram and a level of data flow diagram that represents the college
student registration system. [10 marks]

(c) Describe the various notations for the development of data flow diagram. [6 marks]
