1.

The main idea of the documentary is a unique community called Mennonites and their
way of living.
2. I think that the Mennonites should change their way of living. Instead of escaping the
modern era, they should learn to adapt to current times, which have advanced
technology. In addition, cell phones will irrefutably bring a ton of benefits if used in
the right way, especially when it comes to communication and learning purposes.
3. France hides his phone from his brother because they will get angry when they see the
phone. He is scared that his brother cannot accept the reality of cell phones but hopes
that he can change his ways in the future.
4. “excommunicate” in the documentary means to cut off someone from a community
and not have any relationship with him/her.
5. Wilhemn was a self-taught doctor who served the Mennonites community, his mum
was a nurse, and he taught himself through medical textbooks. It was then time for
him to buy a phone to save more lives. However, after the community knew about it,
they forced him to change, but he refused. So, they excommunicated him. Nobody
talked to him, and he was not allowed to work there. Then, he started a new colony,
and a few families of Mennonites decided to join him. They also started a new church.
6. Evolution threatens the traditional Mennonites by spreading the cultures from the
West that includes drinking and smoking. Mennonites think they are losing their
souls.
7. Abraham plans to relocate to Peru to live a more better life and community that is
more loyal to the bible. He also found land there that he could use for keeping
chickens and cows.
8. The writer is referring to the ice cream-eating experience of the kids in town since it’s
only once or twice a year.
9. The Mennonites felt that it was a culture shock strolling around the city because the
people were dressed differently and would often look at them. They would also ask
them about their origins.
10. The new challenge for the Mennonites was to build a new community in Peru from
the beginning. They were also seasoned carpenters.
