Smoking Policy
INTENT
Trappers Transport Ltd. is committed to ensuring the workplace is safe and healthy for all
employees. This policy outlines our rules regarding smoking in the workplace which aims to
protect non-smokers without unreasonably depriving smokers of their right to smoke.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all employees of Trappers Transport Ltd. as well as to visitors, contractors,
and temporary staff. Smokers need to follow this policy for the following reasons:
Protect non-smokers from second-hand smoking.
Avoid setting off alarms and smoke detectors.
Preserve an image of a clean workplace.
Avoid fires from discarded cigarettes.
POLICY
Our policy refers to the use of tobacco, including vape products. As a general rule, smoking is
not allowed indoors. This rule refers to:
Working areas Warehouses
Hallways Shop / Washbay
Staircases Lunchrooms / Lounge
Restrooms
Smoking is prohibited indoors at any time, not just during working hours. If an employee stays
late at work, they’re still obliged to follow this policy.
Employees are only permitted to smoke during their scheduled breaks at designated smoking
areas located 8 meters away from the building entrance or exit as stipulated by the Smoking
Laws and Enforcement in Manitoba. Management has posted signage where smoking is
permitted. Smokers are expected to:
Extinguish their cigarettes and discard them only in appropriate containers.
Avoid smoking when they have scheduled meetings with clients or vendors.
Avoid smoking near flammable objects and areas.
DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES
Trappers Transport Ltd. expects employees to respect this policy and their colleagues. The
company will take disciplinary action towards employees who disregard this policy:
Employees who violate this policy frequently or cause severe problems (e.g. fires) may
face consequences up to and including termination.
Employees who violate this policy infrequently or don’t cause major issues will be
subject to disciplinary actions based on the existing Progressive Discipline Policy.
The Management is responsible for taking appropriate action after investigation of incidents
thoroughly.
