TYPES OF WAITING LISTS IN INDIAN RAILWAYS AND THEIR CONFIRMATION
CHANCES
In Indian Railways, there are two types of waiting lists:
1. General Waiting List (GNWL): This waiting list is for passengers who start their
journey from the originating station of a train or stations along its route. The
chances of confirmation of GNWL tickets depend on the total number of seats
available in a train and the number of cancellations made by other passengers.
2. Remote Location Waiting List (RLWL): This waiting list is for passengers who start
their journey from intermediate stations, that is, stations between the originating
and terminating stations of a train. The confirmation chances for RLWL tickets are
relatively lower than GNWL tickets since the availability of seats for these stations
is limited.
Additionally, there are other waiting lists like:
3. PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List): This waiting list is for passengers who book
their tickets under a pooled quota, which is a group of stations that share a quota
of seats. The confirmation chances for PQWL tickets depend on the number of
cancellations made by passengers who booked under the same quota.
4. RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation): RAC allows a passenger to board the train
but only on a shared seat. If any confirmed berth becomes available due to
cancellation, RAC passengers can claim the seat.
5. Tatkal Waiting List (TQWL): This waiting list is for passengers who book tickets
under the Tatkal quota. The confirmation chances for TQWL tickets depend on
the number of cancellations made by other passengers and the Tatkal quota
availability.
Confirmation chances for waiting list tickets vary and depend on various factors
such as the season, the train, the number of seats available, and the number of
cancellations. It is advisable to book tickets as early as possible to have a higher
chance of getting a confirmed seat.
