RETOOLING TEACHERS IN TEACHING SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS THRU LAC

A. RATIONALE:

Most failure in Mathematics and Science is due to the sole memorization with devoid understanding. Pupils lack the application of skills
and techniques which help the pupils develop their critical thinking, reasoning power and creative minds which they use in working
independently in any kind of Mathematics or Science activities.

In line with this, Banna Central/Barbarangay Elementary School will conduct series of School-based Learning Action Cell (SLAC)
Sessions titled “Retooling Teachers in Teaching Science and Mathematics thru LAC” for March to May, 2023 and also response to DepEd
Order No. 35, s. 2016 which is in accordance with the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533, or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of
2013, that mandates the Learning Action Cell as a K to 12 Basic Education Program School – Based Continuing Professional Development
Strategy for the improvement of teaching and learning. The sessions will aid teachers in the construction of new knowledge about instruction
as well as accepting change to improve teaching beliefs and strategies to suit learners’ needs. It also aids in developing strategies and
designing interventions to promote learner’s ability in Mathematics and Science. And most importantly, it aids in the continuing development
of teachers in order for them to help pupils acquire life-long learning skills.

Moreover, the School-based Learning Action Cell (SLAC) Session is a venue for teachers to share experiences, come up with a
common action towards a situation and to share one’s best practices for a better teaching-learning atmosphere.
B. OVERVIEW:
Banna Central/Barbarangay Elementary School LAC Team is composed of 28 teachers and the school head. The group will engage in
collaborative learning sessions to solve shared challenges encountered in school to improve daily teachings. The team will assemble every
week (Thursday) at 3:00 to 5: 00 in the afternoon in designated rooms/venues where the designated LAC Facilitator leads the
discussion/small group brain storming session and the documenter to record activities to support results/reports of each LAC schedule.

C. OBJECTIVES:
After the implementation of the said activity, participants are expected to:
a) To equip desired knowledge, skills, attitudes and strategies in teaching Mathematics and Science;
b) To build support to co-teachers that will result commitment in mentoring and sharing of teaching practices to improve classroom in-
struction; and
c) To involve PTA and stakeholders in activities that would boost interests of learners in Mathematics and Science.
