1 PROCESS FLOW

2 PURPOSE AND SCOPE


This procedure describes guidelines for conducting load test for winch. The purpose of the procedure is to ensure the
holding brake of the winch is holding the desired load.

3 DEFINITIONS
LSA = Life Saving Appliance
1.5 x Static Load Test winch = 1.5 times the load of the SWL of the lifeboat.

5.1 Attach load cell on the master link

5.2 Zero digital reader where
applicable, or record reading from
load cell reader. Photos can be
taken for recording purposes.

5.3 Attach water bags or other


suitable load to the load cell.

5.4 If using water weights:


Connect hoses to bags.

5.5 Fill bags / water weights to


desired weight.

5.6 Record full weight, photos can
be taken for recording
purposes.

5.7 Mark the wire rope drum and


wait for 5 minutes, ensure the Highlighter.
wire drum is static.

5.8 Once the test has been


completed, release the water and
disconnect the weights.

5.9 Maintain Housekeeping in every


working place assigned. Follow
the 5S concept.

6 SAFETY INITIATIVE

Service Engineers must wear Basic PPE. SE-04-055

Ensure to barricade test areas.

Make sure that all rigging gear used for test has sufficient SWL and relevant certificates.
