Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary to protect workers from hazards in the workplace. PPE includes equipment for the head, eyes and face, ears, respiratory system, hands and arms, feet and legs, fall protection, and torso. Proper PPE must be selected based on the hazards, and employers must train workers on correct use and ensure equipment is properly maintained. The most effective approach is to eliminate or reduce hazards through engineering and administrative controls before relying on PPE.
