Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence. When doing

– Push clamping sleeve onto gear knob and engage.

– Press bevel box off gearbox.
Note
Before lifting the locking collar, take off spring and lock body. Then
afterwards replace locking collar on synchro-hub again, but with‐
out selector fork.
– Remove bolts -A- for synchro-hub and 5th gear, to do this se‐
lect 1st gear -arrows 2 and 3- and 5th gear -arrow 1-.
– After both gears are engaged, the input shaft and output shaft
are locked. The synchro-hub and gear wheel cannot turn. Both
bolts can now be loosened.
– Pull off synchro-hub with 5th gear wheel and take off needle

– Fit differential into clutch housing.
– Fit clutch housing and tighten 5 bolts to specified torque
⇒ Item 11 (page 80) .
– Press differential in direction of clutch housing while turning it
eight times.
– Press differential in direction of gearbox housing while turning
it eight times.
– Attach dial gauge and set to “0” with 1 mm preload.
– Move differential up and down. Read and note play indicated

– Measure length of old and new output flange shafts and de‐
termine difference.
Example:
Old output flange 25.80 mm
New output flange 25.60 mm
Difference 0.20 mm
If the new output flange is longer, install an S4 shim which is
thinner by the difference.
If the old output flange is longer, install an S4 shim which is thicker
by the difference.

Readjustment of the bevel gear (with stub shaft) is required if Prote AG.
– Fit bevel gear with stub shaft with tapered roller bearing.
– Install cover with large tapered roller bearing outer race but
without O-ring, drive flange seal and without shim S1.
– Press bevel gear with stub shaft in direction of cover while
turning eight times.
– Press bevel gear with stub shaft in direction of outer race of
small tapered roller bearing while turning eight times.
– Set up dial gauge (2 mm preload) -A- dial gauge extension 30
mm.
– Move bevel gear with stub shaft up and down
(-direction of arrow-).
– Read play from dial gauge and determine Stotal.
