Award winners for English

The Sahit ya Akademi Award is t he second-highest lit erary honor in India. The Sahit ya Akademi, India's Nat ional Academy of Let t ers,
aims at "promot ing Indian lit erat ure t hroughout t he world". The Akademi annually confers on writ ers of "t he most out st anding books
of lit erary merit ". The awards are given for works published in any of t he 24 languages recognised by t he akademi.[1] Inst it ut ed in
1954, t he award recognizes and promot es excellence in writ ing and acknowledge new t rends. The annual process of select ing
awardees runs for t he preceding t welve mont hs. As of 2015, t he award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh
(US$1,300).[1][2]
