Math Lesson Plan: Rational Expressions

This document contains a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics class on operations of rational algebraic expressions. The objectives are for students to be able to reduce fractions to simplest form, add or subtract rational expressions with similar and dissimilar denominators, and develop cooperative learning skills. The lesson plan outlines preliminary activities like prayer and attendance, as well as developmental activities like reviewing previous lessons and motivating an example activity. Evaluation problems are provided to assess student understanding. For homework, students are assigned to complete advance study on complex rational expressions.

A DETAILED
LESSON PLAN IN
MATHEMATICS
(OPERATIONS ON RATIONAL
ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS-

Expressions)
I. OBJECTIVES
At end of the session, the students should be able to;
a) reduce the fraction in simplest form,
b) add or subtract the rational expression with dissimilar and dissimilar denominators,
and
c) develop cooperative learning in group activity.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Rational Algebraic Expression – Operations on rational algebraic expressions

(Adding and subtracting dissimilar rational algebraic expressions)

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

“Before we start our class, let us

all put ourselves in the holy Prayer
presence of our Lord.”

“Please, lead the prayer.”

2. Greetings

“Good morning, class!” Good morning, Ma’am

3. Checking of Attendance

” Is there any absent in the class?” None, Ma’am

4. Recalling of the
Classroom Rules
“Before we begin, let us recall
what to do in our classroom”

Classroom Rules: The 5 P’s

1. Be prepared

2. Be positive

3. Be productive

4. Be respectful

5. Be participative
B. Developmental Activities

1. Review

“Before we start to our new lesson,

let us have first a review regarding
our previous lesson about adding
and subtracting similar rational
expressions.”

To add and subtract two rational expressions:

First, we have to copy the denominator since
“What are the steps in adding and
they are the same.
subtracting rational expressions?”
Next, factor and solve it.
Lastly, We have to simplify our answers if
possible.

“Very Good!”

C. Motivations

“Let’s have an activity. It is

about adding and subtracting a
fractions, so now we will going
to solve it.”
Yes ma’am
“Do you understand?”

“Okay, Let’s start!” 19
