i can to be here without trouble at all. Secondly, may sholawat and salam for our Prophet
Muhammad SAW. Hello everybody, my name is Fitri Alina Putri Sugianto. I have a story, entitled “ BJ
Habibie success story: As a son of the nation, BJ Habibie dedicated his intelligence to build the
country”.

Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie or commonly known as BJ Habibie, (born 25 June 1936, Parepare,
Indonesia) is an Indonesian aircraft engineer and politician who served as president from 1998 to
1999. BJ Habibie is also known as a leader in the development of technology and the Indonesian
economy in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. BJ Habibie is known to have grown up in a
religious family. Alwi Abdul Jalil, his father was never absent to recite the verses of the Koran every
day at home. When his father read verses from the Koran to his family, especially in front of BJ
Habibie, he admitted that he always felt calm.

As an intelligent student, BJ Habibie continued his studies at ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology)
after graduating from high school in 1954 - at that time ITB was still called the University of
Indonesia Bandung. At that time, BJ Habibie entered the Mechanical Engineering department at the
Faculty of Engineering. But after several months of studying at ITB, BJ Habibie received a scholarship
from the Minister of Education and Culture in Germany. Within a period of 10 years, between 1955
and 1965, BJ Habibie focused on specializing in aircraft construction at the Rhein Westfalen Aachen
Technisce Hochschule (RWTH).

Thank God, his hard work and struggle to learn knowledge, BJ Habibie received the Ing degree
(Cumlaude predicate – perfect, with an average grade of 9.5) from the Technische Hochschule
Germany in 1960. Not satisfied with the title he got, BJ Habibie returned to seek knowledge by
earning a doctorate at the Technische Hochschule Die Facultaet Fuer Maschinenwesen Aachen. He
earned his Doctoral degree with the Summa Cumlaude predicate in 1965 with an average grade of
10.

BJ Habibie became a government adviser and head of an aerospace company in 1976. Two years
later he became research minister and head of the Agency for Technology Evaluation and
Application. In this role, BJ Habibie oversaw a number of businesses involving the production and
transportation of heavy machinery, steel, electronic equipment and telecommunications, including
weapons and aammunition. In 1993, BJ Habibie launched the first aircraft made in Indonesia, where
he himself helped in making the design, which was named the N250 Gatot Kaca aircraft.

In the late 1990s, Habibie was seen as one of several possible candidates to replace Suharto. In
March 1998, Suharto appointed Habibie as vice president, and two months later, following clashes
and large-scale mass demonstrations in Jakarta, Suharto announced his resignation. BJ Habibie, who
at that time was pushed to become the number one leader to replace Suharto, immediately began
implementing major reforms. Indonesia held free general elections (the first since 1955) in June.
Victory occurred on the side of Abdurrahman Wahid. After President Abdurrahman Wahid took
office, BJ Habibie decided to leave politics.
 The story of his life and love journey with his wife was immortalized in a film and became an
inspiration for all of us.

That is the success story of BJ Habibie as a nation's son who worked hard to study in a foreign
country and brought his intelligence to develop the country.
