SBT (Spontaneous Breathing Trial) (Standard)
The SBT is used to assess a patient’s ability to get weaned off the ventilator
This feature will place the patient in CPAP/PS mode for a set amount of time to
check his ability for spontaneous breathing on his own
The SBT displays the minute ventilation, respiratory rate and end-tidal CO2 for
the time of the trial
If the minute volume, respiratory rate or apnea alarm limits are exceeded during
the SBT, the trial will end and ventilator will return to the predefined mode and
settings
The SBT split screen displays the MVexp, RR, and EtCO2 for the trial

GE CARESCAPE R860
BiLevel (optional)
Mixed mode which allows spontaneous BiLevel waveforms
breathing in pressure controlled ventilation
The ventilator synchronizes spontaneous
breathing with changes in pressure level
The ventilator switches between two
pressure levels at set times
If a spontaneous breath is detected within a
window of 4 seconds, the breath is delivered
by an increase to PHigh
If the spontaneous breath is detected outside
the window, a pressure supported breath is
delivered

GE CARESCAPE R860
BiLevel VG (optional)
BiLevel VG combines the “open valve”
technology of BiLevel with the benefits of
volume guarantee
It ensures that the set tidal volume is
delivered during the high pressure level
The volume guarantee automatically sets
the inspiratory pressure to the lowest
possible level to provide the set tidal
volume.
BiLevel - VG waveforms

NIV (optional)
NIV option is designed with two modes:
- NIV for adult and pediatric
- nCPAP for neonatal
NIV is only available in pressure support mode such as
CPAP/PS
Integrated unique leak recognition algorithm
Use with nasal or face masks
nCPAP (optional) is only available with neonatal mode
nCPAP is delivered without the use of neonatal flow sensor
10 | 35 GE CARESCAPE R860 Product presentation (extended) | June 2015 | Stefan Mixa
Internal use only
GE CARESCAPE R860
Neonatal ventilation mode (optional)
Ventilation mode for intubated neonatal patients weighing
down to 0.25 kg
Ventilation by using a proximal flow sensor at the patient
wye
Sensor allows flows
- as low as 0.2 L/min and
- as high as 30 L/min
Automatic patient detection (APD) in standby
Precise volume regulation during mechanical, assisted or
spontaneous modes
Neonatal nCPAP is available
No high frequency ventilation available

SpiroDynamics*
(Tracheal pressure measurement)
FRC INview*
(Measurement of Functional Residual Capacity)
PEEP INview*
(See how the PEEP value affects the FRC value)
Lung INview*
(Measures the volume between dynostatic curves at the set
PEEP levels of the PEEP INview procedure)
Metabolics*
(Calorimetry measurements)
* All advanced applications are already available in GE Engström Carestation

GE CARESCAPE R860
SpiroDynamics (optional)
Measurement of tracheal pressure and intrinsic PEEP (Tracheal pressure
measured via intratracheal pressure sensor)
Similar to Spirometry by creating a PV loop that is analyzed by the user
Freezes current loops and provides numeric display of X and Y axis as cursor
moves across loops
Pressure and volume values displayed at cursor position
Not available in neonatal mode

Internal use only
GE CARESCAPE R860
SpiroDynamics (optional)
The Sensor is inserted into the endotracheal tube
proximal to the Y- piece
After a breath, a dynostatic curve is calculated from the
loop providing an estimate of the alveolar pressure and
volume

GE CARESCAPE R860
FRC INview (optional)
Enables to measure Functional Residual Capacity
on mechanically ventilated patients
Calculation based on the nitrogen washout method
using a step change ( ∆ +10% abs. FiO2)
in the oxygen/air concentration
An FRC procedure takes 2 measurements
When FRC procedure is started, the system
captures a baseline of N2 concentration and
then changes the set O2 to the set FRC O2
After a few breaths, a curve begins to plot
on the graph
Provides the user with data for determining the
optimal PEEP setting for the patient
Not available in neonatal mode
16 | 35 GE CARESCAPE R860 Product presentation (extended) | June 2015 | Stefan Mixa
Internal use only
GE CARESCAPE R860
PEEP INview (optional)
The PEEP INview procedure can
be used to see how a change in
the PEEP value affects the FRC
value helps the clinician to
determine the optimal PEEP
A series of FRC measurements
are taken at varying PEEP levels
PEEP levels can increase or
decrease
Best PEEP when the FRC
difference is the biggest
Only available with FRC INview
Not available in neonatal mode

GE CARESCAPE R860
Lung INview (optional)
3000
Available when SpiroDynamics and FRC INview
are used together
FRC volume axis
Lung INview
Integrate SpiroDynamics and FRC INview within
the PEEP INview procedure
complete Lung INview display
Measures the amount of volume between the PEEP axis 30
dynostatic curves at the set PEEP levels PEEP curve for 5 measurements
When FRC measurement is taken, data is also PEEP curve minus the difference between
SpiroDynamic dynostatic curve (= Lung INview)
taken from the SpiroDynamics loop to obtain
information on absolute volume
Comparing the volumes from several dynostatic
curves results in a difference that can be
estimated as recruited volume
Not available in neonatal mode
