Problem
The FactoryTalk Alarm Summary indicates there are a number of alarm faults. Double-clicking on the Alarm fault

Additionally, if the alarm(s) in question are tripped, they do not show up in the FactoryTalk Alarm Summary.

Error Code/Message
Bad Quality - Non-Specific

Solution
There are a number of reasons that can cause this message. Usually, this is caused by incorrect syntax.

First, ensure that the input tag has the correct syntax by re-browsing through the tag
browser and compare and contrast the differences from the original tag and the re-
browsed tag. You may notice that by re-browsing it adds an area name.
If it is missing an area name, you can export the alarm and event server to Excel, and
then copy and paste the missing syntax for each tag, and then re-import.

If that does not resolve the issue, see the following additional possible causes and solutions:

1. If there are any curly braces ( ex: { } ) around the tag in the Input Tag field in the
alarm properties, remove them.

2. The input tag does not exist in the controller defined in the shortcut. Go online with
the controller to verify the tag exists.
3. There are communication issues to the controller. Test by copying the intput tag path
from the alarm setup and pasting into a display with a numeric display object. If the
object wireframes, troubleshoot communication issues from the data server.
4. The shortcut name for the input tag is incorrect or does not exist. Add the shortcut to
the data server.
5. If the FactoryTalk View Command field is populated, remove it to see if the fault no
longer occurs. Try using this same command in a button object to see if it is valid.
6. Restart the FactoryTalk Directory server.
