It includes two proposed research titles with details about the research questions and design. The first title is on developing a green mind in youth by motivating students to become environmental volunteers through educational webinars. WORKSHEET
Identifying Research Topic I

Directions: Think of at three (3) research topics ((you may choose from descriptive-developmental,
experimental, causal-comparative with correlational, or mixed methods) that interest you most in the
research agenda that were discussed. Answer the guide questions that follow

NOTE: Make sure to have AT LEAST 5 SUPPORTING LITERATURES for each proposed title.

Proposed Title # 1
RESEARCH AGENDA Environmental Sustainability
SUB-CATEGORY Collective Environmental Movement
Broad Topic Awareness and Fostering Positive Attitudes towards the Environment
Specific Topic Educational Webinar
Narrowed Topic Youth Educational Webinar
Possible Title Using Educational Webinars to Motivate Youth to Be Environmental
Volunteers
Final Research Title Developing a Green Mind: Motivating the Students to be
Environmental Volunteers through Educational Webinars

GUIDE QUESTIONS
1. What type of research design do you aim for this? Explain why?

 This study falls under the category of quantitative research, which focuses on
examining data acquired through statistical analysis (Rutberg & Bouikidis, 2018).
The researchers were able to gather numerical data on the environmental
attitudes and level of motivation of late youths using a quantitative method to see
if there was a significant difference before and after the instructional webinar. It
would improve the accuracy of some findings (Brief, 2012), which is critical in
measuring the efficacy of a webinar in encouraging adolescents to join
environmental volunteers.

 The one-group pretest posttest design was employed in this quantitative study
because it is used to examine a dependent variable before and after treatment
without utilizing a control group (Zientek et al., 2016). The casual-comparative
research design is commonly used to assess an intervention's efficacy (Thyer,
2009). In order to determine whether there is a significant difference in the
respondents' environmental views and motivation levels to engage in
environmental action before and after the webinar, the researchers analyzed the
respondents' pre-test and post-test scores. In this study, the independent variable
is the educational webinar and the dependent variable is the environmental
volunteerism according to the following factors: the environmental attitude and
level of motivation of the webinar attendees.

2. What does the existing literatures talk about the nature of your prospective study?
Provide the possible research gap that you might address.

 The globe is altering as a result of global warming. A worldwide climate

assessment has discovered, for the first time in history, that humans are affecting
their environment and the life in it by changing the climate (Kerr, 2007). Large-
scale deforestation, the use of fossil fuels, and other human activities have a
significant impact on the ecosystem. These occurrences release massive
amounts of "greenhouse gases" into the atmosphere, which absorb infrared
radiation from the Earth's surface and serve as blankets over the surface,
keeping it warmer, resulting in climate change (Houghton, 2005).

 Teenagers' involvement in environmental causes and volunteerism have been

the subject of previous research, which have raised issues including the youth's
waning faith in environmental movements and their doubt about the authenticity
of these groups (Wallis and Loy, 2021). (Koppomeir, 2020). According to other
surveys, even while young people are aware of the present environmental
predicament, they are unsure of how to deal with it (Barrett et al., 2002;
Ehrampoush and Moghadam, 2005; Nunez and Clores, 2017; Mudaliar et al.,
2021). According to the findings stated above, it appears that students still lack
the dedication and inclination to participate in pro-environmental collective
activities, particularly outside of school. This has to be addressed.

 As a remedy, educational webinars were suggested. As the name implies, the

phrase "webinar" combines the words "web" and "seminar." It is simply a web-
based platform where educators may engage with students without the close
proximity that traditional learning offers; in other words, it is available to everyone
due to its geographic flexibility (Gegenfurtner, 2019). It makes it possible for
students to interact, work together, and exchange ideas and perspectives
(Webex, 2015). Meetings, conferences, exhibitions, training sessions, and events
are just a few examples.

3. What will be the main objective of this proposed study?

 This study seeks to determine if delivering educational webinars on

environmental issues and the urgent need for group action motivates young
people, especially young adults, to become more actively engaged in
organizations and movements that seek to address environmental issues.

Proposed Title # 2
RESEARCH AGENDA Environmental Sustainability
SUB-CATEGORY Waste Management Systems
Broad Topic Use of High-Density Polyethylene
Specific Topic Utilization of High-Density Polyethylene in Making Hollow Blocks
Narrowed Topic Improving the Quality of Modular Hollow Blocks
Possible Title Usage of High-Density Polyethylene in Manufacturing Modular Hollow
Blocks
Final Research Title High-Density Polyethylene as an Additive Component in the
Production of Modular Hollow Blocks

GUIDE QUESTIONS
1. What type of research design do you aim for this? Explain why?
 The purpose of this study was to test if adding HDPE plastics in hollow block can
improve its qualities and performance. The experimental and nested research
design approach was used in which levels of one factor are hierarchically
subsumed under levels of another factor. And a cluster sampling design was
used to make the experimentation process systematic and organized.

2. What does the existing literatures talk about the nature of your prospective study?
Provide the possible research gap that you might address.

Hollow block is one of the most accommodating masonry units as building
material due to its properties. Attempts have been made to incorporate waste in
the production of bricks such as the use of paper processing residues, cigarette
butts, fly ash, textile Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) sludge, polystyrene foam,
plastic fiber, straw, polystyrene fabric, cotton waste, dried sludge collected from
an industrial wastewater treatment plant, rice husk ash, granulated blast furnace
slag, rubber craft pulp production residue, limestone dust and wood sawdust,
processed waste tea, petroleum effluent and waste paper pulp (Raut, 2011).

High-Density Polyethylene Plastic recycling efforts have increased substantially

over the last decade but are still insufficient. The concept of using plastic
powders or granules as a concrete additive or aggregate is not new. Recently,
various research works have been done to find out the safe and environment
friendly disposal of plastics. Concrete all over the globe has been utilized for the
required infrastructure. Both materials consumption are increasing day by day in
their respective fields. The inclusion of waste plastic in concrete by replacing or
adding the concrete ingredients is one of the appropriate ways to dispose it
(Wahid, 2015).

3. What will be the main objective of this proposed study?

 The researchers wanted to pursue this study to present to the public a modular
hollow block that is more efficient than the existing concrete hollow blocks. This
research was already done in the past using Polyethylene Terephthalate (PETE)
to improve the quality of the block whilst being cost-efficient. However, in this

research, the researchers chose to use High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) that
has properties better than PETE.
