Networking Research Paper

This document provides details on a proposed network design project for the Barangay Hall of Barangay Taal in Pulilan, Bulacan. The current network setup is insufficient to meet their needs. The proposed network aims to improve speed and organization. It will add another router and convert a desktop into a server. The network will serve employee and client data, prioritizing administrators, employees, and clients. It requires a transmission speed of 20-50 Mbps to avoid delays. Load variation will be addressed to sustain reliable data transmission across the network.

CICT History

The College of Information and Communications Technology can trace its

rich history back to the former Bulacan College of Arts and Trade's College of

Industrial Technology. The two-year Computer Technician Course was overseen

by Mr. Alexander S. dela Paz when it was first established in 1989 as the

Computer Department of the College of Industrial Technology. dela Paz and Mr.

Fausto S. Hilario, the latter serving as Area Chairman, were pioneering computer

educators. The course's emphasis was on familiarizing students with computer

software and hardware, and it was conducted in two computer lab rooms on the

first level of the Integrated Building. Each lab had less than 15 machines. In order

to meet the increasing need for graduates in the field of computers, more

sections of the Computer Technician degree were added throughout the ensuing

years. Additional computer instructors and computer units were hired due to the

rise in section. The CIT Computer Department became the BCAT Computer

Center as a result of this evolution. President Rosario P. Pimentel had the idea of

expanding the Computer Center when BCAT was transformed into Bulacan State

University in 1996 and the university wanted to promote computer literacy.

With the support of the University Board of Regents and Mr. Hilario's

passionate advocacy, the vision was realized in 1999 when the BCAT Computer

Center was transformed into the Institute of Computer Education, with Mr. Fausto

S. Hilario serving as Dean.

Chapter I: FEASIBILITY STUDY

I. Situation in which the Project Exist

The current situation of the network in the Barangay Hall of Barangay

Taal, Pulilan was currently good but not enough to sustain to their internet and

service needs. The network in the barangay hall was not yet organized that is

why we choose this as the client of our network design proposal. This will be

beneficial to the both of us, for me to finish this project and for them to have the

initial plan to improve their network.

In this situation the data transfer in this set—up that’s why we choose this

barangay as our client. The situation also in this barangay causes their internet

speed to become much slower. Considering the set-up and the situation we will

come up with light improvements.

The initial set-up that was in the Barangay Hall was consist of 2 Modem, 1

Router, 5 Desktops, and 4 Laptops. This was initially the set-up of the network

system of the barangay hall consisting of computers in the Day Care Center,

Health Center, and the Barangay Office.

Page 6

II. Network Scope

The scope of the network was to create a newly improved network design

that will be beneficial to the Barangay Hall of Barangay Taal, Pulilan. Coming up

with innovative ideas to improve their network design, and also to improve

network speed and transmission speed by adding one more router and

converting one of their desktops to become a server. Any further improvements

will not be in entertained by the study.

III. Objectives of the Network

The objective of the network was to provide improvements that will be

beneficial to the client for their internet, transmission, and connections. Also,

another objective of this study was to provide the list of the items and budget

needed for the study.

IV. Intended Users

The intended users of this network design were the employee of the

Barangay Taal, Pulilan barangay hall. And also, we target as users those who

came to the barangay hall for the free printing service.

Page 7

Chapter II: DATA ANALYSIS

Data Types. The data types that will be served by this network was preferably

reports, forms, client’s information, employee information, accounting of salary,

and a little of web browsing. We also expected to served data types such as

graphics, and a little number of videos (Presentation, report, or AVP).

Data Sources. The files stated above was expected to be created, modified, and

edited at all station devices at the barangay hall. Produced by the major

applications used in different devices such as Office 365 Professional (Word,

Excel, Access, and Presentation), Windows 2019 Accessories (Paint and

Notepad), and Windows Media Player.

Number of Users and Priority Levels. The users intended at this level will be

the Barangay Chairperson, the Barangay Clerk, Barangay Councilors, and

Barangay employees. And with limited access, we will expect that the clients of

the barangay hall of Taal will be users also.

There are only Three Priority Levels here: the admins (highest priority), the

employees (middle priority), and the clients (low priority). The admins will be

consisted of the Barangay Chairperson, Councilors and the 3 Youth admins.

Which will receive the reports or the data that will be coming from the employees,
this will be the important files that needed to be submitted to the heads, this level

of priority

Page 8

also requires stronger internet for them to send the reports to the municipality.

The employees will be consisted of the health workers, barangay tanods,

barangay clerk, daycare center teacher, and etc. The employees also will be both

sending files to the admins and receiving information from the clients. They are

what we so called the front end of the office that faces the clients directly. And

the clients will be the persons that was considered as the customers of the

barangay hall or the citizens itself. This has the lowest priority since they are

only sending or printing light details or information. They don’t need much of

priority since they only do light tasks.

Transmission Speed Requirements. The network transmission was needed to

be atleast 20mbps - 50mbps transfer speed so that there will be no delay in

every transaction that will be made by at the barangay hall. This will be

necessary for the client because they always sending a lot of files and data there.

Load Variation Estimates. The based on our observation with the client each

and every Desktop has a different room that varies. That is why we need to

create a much reliable in terms of Load and transfer rate of the organizations

network. To comply and sustain the flow of the loads of the barangay hall in

terms of transmission of data.

 The average required throughput on any LAN during work hours (8:00am

– 5:00pm) will be atleast 1 mb/s.

Page 9

 The average required throughput on any WAN during work hours (8:00am

– 5:00pm) will be atleast 2 mb/s.

 The peak expected traffic load on any LAN will be about 15mb/s.

 The peak expected traffic load on any LAN will be about 10mb/s.

Storage Requirements. The minimum storage requirement will be atleast

enough to hold data from clients atleast those minimal files they will submit. Then

for the desktops that will be upgraded will need a storage of atleast 4 terabyte of

storage. And then for the device that will be used by the employees they will be

needing atleast a minimum of 500gb of storage.

Reliability Requirements. In lined with the agreed statement of us and the

client, also considering the expectation of the client. Both LAN and WAN were

expected to be 99.9% functional and reliable and only has 0.1% of unexpected

margin of error.

Security Requirements. A firewall was expected also to be developed while we

are developing this network design. And knowing that the client was a

government agency we should have to provide a strong firewall. So that the

information and data was always been secured and safe from breaching.
Page 10

Existing Network. The network they have in the place was a bit unorganized

and needed an improvement.
