The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom

created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting
Company. The series is a funny demonstration of
working-class life represented by the Simpson family:
Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, voiced
respectively by the actors Dan Castellaneta, Julie
Kavner, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith. The
show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and it is
about American culture, society, television, and the
human condition.
Groening created a hilarious family and named the characters after members of his own
family — only Bart received a different name. The show became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show
on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, FOX developed it into a half-hour time show, becoming
a very successful TV series. The show received bad and good critics and it divides opinions. It
also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2000), Best Animated Television Program
(Annie Award – 1992), and many other awards.
Since its debut on December 17, 1989, there are 615 episodes of The Simpson, including
many Halloween and Christmas specials. Its 28th season began on September 25, 2016. It is the
longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running American animated program.
