Groomer Assistant Course
Purpose of the Course
Three-week bathing/groomer assistant course. At the end of this course, you will be certified for bather/groomer assistant. You will
know the basics of being in a salon, comfortable talking to clients, and comfortable bathing, drying, brushing, and assisting
groomers with their pets.
Goals and Objectives
At the end of this course students will know:

Bathing, drying, and grooming basics

Grooming salon safety
Products
Nails, pads, ears, sanitary trimming, teeth brushing
Coat types and proper care, tools, and products
Skin conditions and health concerns
Parasites
Handling
Time management
Salon admin and customer service
Blade lengths
De-shedding and de-matting
Complete bath and brush dogs from start to finish
This course is 80-120 hours
Schedule of Topics
Day 1 Return all signed documents, introduction to course, and grooming salon tour.
Importance of grooming, history, and the pet industry.
Pet/Human Safety and proper handling of the pet.
Breeds and coat types.
Shampoos and Conditioners. Sydnee’s Pet Grooming products
Day 2 Learning about health concerns of pet, how to identify, and how to communicate it with the owner.
Learning about the importance of health in teeth, ears, anal glands, skin conditions and parasites, and toe
nail health and maintenance.
Equipment
Learn about animal behavior and how to interact with the animal.
Intro to bathing (Demonstration)
Day 3 Time management skills, what Sydnee’s expects. Planning out your day, keeping track of time, and the
importance of timing.
Bathing, how to properly wash/rinse a dog.
Teach ear cleaning, teeth brushing, anal expression, drying techniques.
Why do pets matt and how to prevent it.
Day 4 Bathing
Intro to using brushing/de-shedding tools
Safety with brushing, de-matting, and de-shedding. How to avoid injuring the pet.
Which tools to use on which coat types
Learn brushing, de-shedding, de-matting
Day 5 Sanitary shaving, pads, eye cleanups
Introduction to scissors and clippers
Blade lengths
Clipper burn and how to avoid
Quiz
Bathing, pad trimming, sanitary shave Practice
Practice nail trims.
Day 6 Full day of complete bathing from start to finish of pets
Day 7 Full day of complete bathing from start to finish of pets
Day 8 Teach customer service/Roll play
Teach front desk, check in and out pets, answer phones, scheduling
Salon cleanliness and preparing for the next day.
Day 9 Work a full day in the salon from opening, to checking in their pets, to bathing and finishing, and checking
out their pets. This will be the hand-on portion of the final test.
Day 10 Review and Final Exam.
Week 3 Learn how to complete bath and brush heavy coated dogs from start to finish. Learn how to trim feathers,
faces and feet on bath and brush dogs.

Method of Instruction
This course will be a combination of classroom instruction, demonstrations, text book work, quizzes and exams, and hands
on training. Each student will be required to perform a certain number of tasks properly in order to pass the course.
Method of Evaluation
Course Study Groomer Assistant Instructional Course to Assist Groomers and Complete Bath and
Brush Dogs.
Hands on Evaluation Hands-On learning in grooming salon setting with instructor.
