Shiela May Familaran is a graduate of Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta. Mesa with
a bachelor’s degree in Communication Research. She’s fascinated with words and believes they
were created to inspire people. That’s why she writes poems, essays and stories. She loves the
arts, music and movies as much she loves pizza and coffee. She’s also interested in anime,
cosplay, and anything vintage and classic. She likes reading fiction and finds Richelle Mead’s
Vampire Academy book terrific. She’s also a fan of The Script, Bastille, Paramore, One republic,
The Fray, and other contemporary alternative rock bands. She is also likes watching Horror films
whenever she wants to relieve her stress from work.

Beside frequenting bookstores, she likes to sit by the lake in front of their house; its her favorite
refuge away from the city. For her, life is a fairytales with God as the center of the story. She
considers herself a lifelong reader and writer.

 SUMMARY OF MONTELLO HIGH

This story is all about a girl and a boy who are not in the best of terms when together but in the
end, they fell in love with each other. The girl named Summer Leondale loves trouble. She
always got herself in trouble that is why her father always end up looking for a new school for
her. But unfortunately, it is like her dad is running out of list of schools because she ends up
entering Montello High, a school of gangsters. When she entered the school, she tried to not get
in any trouble but unluckily, she finds herself in the middle of the rival gangs: Black
Government and Dark Monarch. Little by little, Summer discovered something mysterious in
Montello high and she even received death threats. Someone wants something from her that is
why her life was in danger. But fortunately, the boy named Giovanni Freniere who is the leader
of the gang called Black Government became her protector, friend, and love of her life. Both of
them helped each other to solve their problem. Because of their bravery, confidence and love
with each other they successfully solved their problem.
I adore how the main characters showed their feelings with each other. I’m impressed with their
attitudes and behavior when they are together because even though they fought a lot, they still
care with each other though they are not open to it. To be specific, the time when Summer met
the family of Giovanni. Giovanni’s family is the most powerful clan. They have mafia
organization that is why Summer is not safe to go to their mansion without Giovanni because no
one will protect her. She put herself in trouble and it happens that Giovanni’s mafia are the one
who she puts into. That is the time when Giovanni brought Summer into their mansion. Even
though they always fight, Giovanni makes sure that Summer is always in his side for him to
protect her if something suddenly happens. Surprisingly, the flow of the story is extraordinary
though it is about love but it has a twist like the gangster thingy, the experiments in laboratory
and so on.
I tell you, this story is worth your time. It is worth reading and worth telling with your friends
especially when you are teenager. Because teenagers will relate in some point of the story. And it
is worth reading because you’ll learn something new and you’ll learn lessons from this story.
 THE MAIN CHARACTER IS:
SUMMER LEONDALE

She is a very mysterious girl from the start of the story. She is tough outside but a little soft
inside.
Summer Leondale is always the badass kick-out girl with her reputation. She walks in and
bloody walks out. And she was also not expecting that things will be shaken up by irresistibly
hot and badass gangsters.
Issues of friendships, love, violence and mystery are her worst confrontations.
 RECOMMENDATION

Montello High is a series of young adult novels that is wrote by Shiela May Familaran.
When I first read the title of this book. I thought it was just a typical gangster’s story. From the
title itself " MONTELLO HIGH (SCHOOL OF GANGSTERS). I also expect that the story is all
about gangster’s and yes it is, But it has everything that shows the importance of life,
friendships, truth, and most important is the respect to other people.
I am telling you that it is a very much worth reading for. You will never believe for the shocking
events or chapter parts of this story every pages is worth of time you invest in.
You will definitely love the two characters, Van Freniere and Summer Leondale.
