ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Title: Design and Analysis of a Multi-storied Apartment Building


Period: Jan’07-Jun’07
Description: The Building consisted of three floors over the ground floor with five two-bedroom
apartments in each floor. The project involved the design of basic structural components
such as foundation, plinth beam, columns, beams, slabs and staircase under different
combinations of Live load, Dead load, Wind load and Seismic load.
Key Learnings: Adoption of STAAD Pro software for structural design with modern design techniques.

Title: Transportation System Management


Period: Jan’10-July’10
Description: The project dealt with optimizing traffic flow by implementing short term TSM measures.
The project involved the analysis of the effect of TSM measures at different locations of
road network in Hyderabad city using GIS.
Objectives of the Study: To develop a package called GIS Based Transportation System Management (G-TSM) using
ArcView Avenue programming language and to evaluate various TSM techniques over the
study of area for their effectiveness on implementation.
Key Learnings: Identification of critical points in the transportation system using ArcView GIS and
application of traffic control measures.

ORGANIZATIONAL PROJECTS

Title: A465, Gilwern village, South Wales, UK


Client: Llywodraeth Cymru Welsh Government
Design Consultant: Atkins GTC, UK
Description: A465 Heads of the Valleys Sections 5 and 6 are in South Wales, UK. The project scope
consists of upgrading 17Km of existing two lane to Dual Lane access-controlled motorway
from Hirwaun Junction to Dowlies top Junction, which consists of 6 interchanges, 13
Roundabouts, 41 bridges. GTC has delivered more than 50 percent of project scope with
more than 3000 deliverables (1.7 million GBP). The project is delivered digitally using
Global Design Framework with good quality and interdisciplinary review led by GTC using
Revizto.
Period: Jun’21- Jul’21
Role: Performed visibility checks and modified roundabout features such as splitter islands to
comply with DMRB CD 116 design standards. Designed access roads connecting A465
service raods with adjascent ponds/recreation areas. Designed 3D models of
environmental and noise control barriers at various locations along the mainline stretch.
Performed design checks for entry and exit ramps against DMRB standards.

Key Learnings: Dealt with DMRB standards, techniques for designing Roundabouts and visibility checks.
Dealt with new envitonment of working with Civil 3D using different style settings and
subassembly tools.

Title: Arle Court Transport Hub, Gloucestershire, UK


Client: Gloucestershire City Council
Design Consultant: Atkins GTC, UK
Description: The project scope consists of Aproximately doubling of the site’s parking capacity with a
multi storey carpark (576 to 1152); Expansion of the bus capacity on the site including up
to 3 additional stands (total 5) and space to turn around on site to enable expansion of
services in future including long distance coaches; Addition of a waiting facility building
including a commercial food and drink outlet; Upgrade of access to and from the site for
walking and cycling, including reviewing options for crossing the A40 and enhanced
storage of active vehicles on site.
Period: Jul’21- Nov’21
Role: Designed Bus terminal and Car parking 3D model using Civil 3D grading creation tools and
performed vehicle tracking analysis bus and car parking bays. Prepared compliance/non-
compliance reports for Grovefield way and, priority junctions connecting Grovefield way
with Bus terminal and Car park areas.

Key Learnings: Dealt with a unique design of grading technique for design of bus terminal and carpark
areas using Civil 3D. Performed reverse parking swept path analysis and analysied space
constraints extensively.

Title: Indian Nation Turnpike, Oklahoma, US


Client: Oklahoma Turnpike Authority
Design Consultant: Atkins GTC, US
Description: The project scope consists of design and rehabilitation of existing Antlers interchange with
mainline of approx. 4000ft in length with design speed of 80mph; widening of McAlester
and Eufaula road stretches of approx. 1500ft each; creation of Toll Gantry plans, Conduit
plans and Toll Sensor layouts at various locations in and around Antlers interchange and;
Grading around footprints of Toll office building and utility locations at 3 different Toll
locations.
Period: Jul’22- Feb’23
Role: Designed plan, profiles and 3D model for rehabilitation of existing Antlers interchange in
Civil 3D. Designed temporary roads and crossovers to fecilitate various construction phases
at Antlers interchange. Designed grading of toll office building and utility locations
adjascent
to toll plaza in Civil 3D at multiple locations in and around Antlers interchange. Prepared
cross sections dwgs. and calculated earthworks and pavement surfacing quantities in Civil
3D.

Key Learnings: Dealt with AASHTO standards; performed clearzone checks at Antlers mainline and ramps;
designed superelevation for 30mph design speed for all 4 ramps and for 80mph design
speed
for mailnine at Antlers interchange.

Title: Roundabout design at Land of North Ely, UK


Client: Ely city council, UK
Design Consultant: WSP Group, UK
Description: WSP has been appointed to undertake the detailed design of Ely Roundabout. The scope
included to deliver the plans, profiles and 3D model of Ely roundabout.
Period: May’20- Jul’20
Role: This is a 3-arm roundabout. The cross fall of the carriageway was generally 1:40, falling to
the nearside, unless horizontal alignment introduces the need for super elevation. The
longitudinal gradient of the carriageway was a maximum of 1:100. Verges had a cross fall of
1:40 and footway/cycleways 1:36. Provided a kerb upstand of 125mm upstand Half
Batered for footways 125mm upstand Splayed Kerb for central island. The Roundabout was
designed in accordance with DMRB CD 116 and designed using the Stockdale Method.

Key Learnings: Dealt with DMRB standards and techniques for designing Roundabouts. Used Autodesk
Vehicle Turning software to perform swept path analysis.

Title: Norwich Western Link- Alignment options


Client: Norfolk County Council, UK
Design Consultant: WSP Group, UK
Description: Creating a Norwich Western Link to connect the western end of Broadland Northway
(formerly the Northern Distributor Road) to the A47 is one of Norfolk County Council’s top
infrastructure priorities. The scope was to prepare preliminary design detailing alternative
horizontal alignments for 6 route options (A, B West, B East, C, D West, D East) of Norwich
Western Link. Each option should have an average of four alternative alignments prepared,
impact on all ecological features should be avoided by the prepared options where possible.
Period: Feb’19- Apr’19
Role: Designed horizontal and vertical alignments for 6 route options with approx. 6.5 km in
length for each option for design speeds of 100 and 120 kmph. Created geometric design
reports and performed Sight Distance analysis for each of the options. Designed drainage
basins for surface water drainage.
Key Learnings: Designing alignments avoiding constraints with design speeds of 100 and 120 kmph was a
challenging task. Learnt to design complex alignments using advanced techniques using
Civil 3D tools.

Title: MPN- Nacka, Stockholm, Sweden


Client: Nacka Municipality, Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket)
Design Consultant: Å F Infrastructure AB, Neilsoft Ltd.
Description: As Nacka city of Sweden grows and the Stockholm subway is extended to Nacka, the
new terminal becomes an important transfer point. The project Nacka, which is being
carried out in cooperation between Nacka municipality, the Traffic Administration (SLL)
and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), means that part of route 222
(Vä rmdö leden) is moved and covered, and that a bus terminal is built adjacent to the
subway. When the traffic is moved underground, the Nacka residents gets a 300-meter-long
park and city space, new housing and residential buildings, as well as new walking and
cycling routes. The Å F assignment is to establish a road plan, prepare documentation for
zoning, environmental impact assessment and system design, with the option of
specifications for a performance contract. The assignment is estimated to be between SEK
50 and 100 million.
Period: Dec’17- Dec’18
Role: Geometric design of roads and related infrastructure. Leading a team of engineers and
draftsmen. Co-ordination of design activities with client. Managing and planning design
activities to meet the client requirement, quality standards, timely delivery and successful
completion of projects. Cross checking design with other disciplines such as Drainage and

legged grade separated interchange with majority of direct connections and two semi
direct loop connections connected through underpasses; a four-legged clover leaf
interchange with direct connections and, upgrading and construction of North/South
Expressway link connecting the two interchanges.

Role: Reviewed Road geometric design to be in line with corresponding structures and utilities.
Checked the road features, wet utilities and dry utilities for clashes. Co-ordinated the
design of a complex traffic diversion with the sub-consultants and provided valuable
inputs. Extracted useful information from IFC Civil 3D models and drawings for creation of
shop drawings. Created Civil 3D models for creation of excavation shop drawings for
various underpass structures and, also calculated earth work quantities.
Key Learnings: Thorough checking of IFC design details by comparing road design details with other
disciplines. Performing clash analysis of various features. Data extraction and management
of Civil 3D models. Acquired in-depth knowledge on the design and management of
temporary traffic diversions.

Title: Station Area Planning, Phase-1, Qatar Metro Projects

Description: The Qatar Metro Station Area Planning (SAP) project has been developed by Qatar Rail and
the former MMUP (now MME) Central Planning Office (CPO) in conjunction with the
various stakeholders to prepare preliminary designs for thirty-six (36) of the metro
stations that form Phase I of the Qatar Rail metro implementation project. This commission
requires Gannett Fleming to develop concept, preliminary and detailed design for the
public realm around the station entrances and infrastructure and associated civil
engineering at each station location.
Period: Oct’16-Feb’17
Role: Reviewed the concept design of road layout for Ras Bu Fontas Station located on the Qatar
Metro Red Line. The metro station is located in the median of Al Wakrah Main Road with
Pedestrian overbridges linking to access escalators and lifts on either side of the road.
Performed road geometric design at the preliminary stage incorporating changes to the
concept design.
Key Learnings: Performed swept path analysis for various modes of transportation. Studied the philosophy
of storm water drainage design. Incorporated features in the road design for facilitating
pedestrians and disabled people.

Title: Al Wakrah Expressway Bypass (P015)

Description: L&T’s single largest road project overseas with design and build. The scope of work
involved the construction of 11km road consisting of 10 lanes and 4 future lane sections
with additional collector/distributer roads and frontage roads; and also included 4 clover
leaf interchanges with a mix of direct and semi-direct connections and a diamond
interchange with a signalized intersection.
Period: Dec’14-Till date
Role: Checked design details related to roads, and solved design issues that arouse between
client and consultant. Designed temporary diversion roads including signage and marking.
Took out embankment top levels at regular offsets to determine the depth of filling/
cutting. Prepared plan and profile shop drawings for utility lines. Made road signage
and marking drawings for the diversions. Calculated stockpile quantities and earth work
quantities for road and tunnel works. Prepared plan and profile for Qatar petroleum lines.
Key Learnings: Made corridor model in civil 3D for the calculation of depth of filling/cutting required at
regular offsets from centerline for the formation of embankment. Adopted the composite
surface method in civil 3D for Stockpile quantity calculation. Created profiles for utility
lines in conjunction with the bicycle lane profiles and performed clash analysis.

Title: Design Review for Construction of Expressway Link Connecting from Al Kharj City to
Riyadh-Dammam Highway of about 96 Km
Client: Ministry of Transport, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Description: The design was created originally by Saud Consultants, Riyadh. Performed revisions for the
design of two interchanges that were similar to a diamond interchange consisting of four
ramps and four turns that connected ramps with crossroad. The combined length of ramps
and turns summed up to about 4 km in length. Calculated the cut and fill earthwork
quantities between natural ground and top of embankment for the expressway and
interchanges. Worked for the establishment of GPS benchmarks and conduction of closed
traverse at the interchange locations.

Title: Development of Roads in the city of Al Khobar


Client: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Municipality and Rural Affairs, Municipality of
Dammam City
Description: Made design of plan and profile for a network of streets and individual local streets;
designed super-elevation and developed corridors for various urban arterials and local
streets and calculated earth work quantities for various corridors designed for urban
arterials and local streets across the groups ranging from 17 through 19. The design proof
checking was done by Sofcon Company for Engineering Consultancy, Al Khobar.

Title: Rehabilitation of Roads in 1st Industrial City of Dammam Project


Client: Saudi Industrial Property Authority, Dammam
Description: Developed plan and profile for various local streets, collector streets and service
roads. designed entry and exit ramps and loops for grade separated interchanges such as
diamond and clover leaf. The design proof checking was done by Engineering and
Technology Services Office, Dammam.

Title: Preparation of Tender Report and Detailed Design Report for the Proposed Road
Network of Kochi Infopark, Phase - II
Client: M/s Kochi Infopark, Phase - II
Description: The services included Geometric design of carriage way along with associated features
such as Bi-cycle way, pedestrian walkway, promenade development, road-side furniture,
drains and cable trenches. Also dealt partly with the design of culverts and bridges along
the road network.

Description: The services included design of overlays, rigid and flexible pavements along with design of

Description: Initiated the traffic studies for pre-qualification for six - laning of Kishangarh - Udaipur -
Ahmedabad section of NH-79A, 79, 76 & NH-8 including New Udaipur By-pass in states of
Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Title: Four Laning of Panvel – Indapur Section of NH – 17 from km .000 to km 84.000 in the
State of Maharashtra
Client: Supreme Infrastructure Limited, Supreme House, Powai, Mumbai
Description: Implemented the traffic analysis and reported the four laning of Panvel–Indapur section of
NH – 17 from km .000 to km 84.000 in the State of Maharashtra to be executed as BOT
(TOLL) on DBFO pattern under NHDP Phase –III Project (the ‘Project’) through Public-
Private Partnership on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (the ‘DBFOT’) basis.
