COT in MATH 6 - Q4

This lesson plan is for a Grade 6 mathematics class discussing probability. The objectives are for students to understand pie graphs, experimental probability, and describe the meaning of probabilities like 50% chance of rain. The lesson uses examples like rolling dice and weather prediction to demonstrate probabilities. Students will participate in group activities matching probabilities to descriptions and answering drill questions to reinforce concepts. The lesson aims to help students understand how probability relates to real-life situations.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

QUARTER IV
Grade and Section: Grade VI
Date & Time: June 14, 2023

Lesson: Describing the Meaning of Probability such as 50% Chance of Rain and One in a Million
Chance
Week 7
I. Objective:
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of pie graphs and experimental
probability.
B. Performance Standard: The learner is able to apply experimental probability in mathematical
problems and real-life situations.
C. Learning Competency: Describes the Meaning of Probability such as 50% Chance of Rain and One
in a Million Chance happen”. (M6SP-IVh-20)

II. Subject Matter: Describes the Meaning of Probability such as 50% Chance of Rain and One in
a Million Chance

Prerequisite concept and Skills:

 Demonstrates understanding of experimental probability

Integration: ESP and Science

Materials: Laptop, television, power point presentation, cut outs of shapes and letters/words, video, copy of
evaluation/assessment, ballpen

III. Instructional Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities

1. a. Greetings
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Prayer
d. Drill
Matching probability in columns to probability description

2. Presenting the New Lesson

3. Motivation:
Through a song about probability. https://youtu.be/e4d2-pHlg0o
What is the song all about?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Die Game
Mechanics:
1. Let two pupils (boy/girl) roll the die 20 times. Observe probability by guessing what will be the
winning number.
2. Record the winning numbers.
3. The pupil who will get the greater amount of winning number will be the winner.

III. Procedure
a. Tell the pupils to look in the sky outside and let them predict the weather. Let them explain and
prove their answer.
b. Presenting instances of the new lesson ( The weather forecaster says that the probability that it
will rain today is 75%. Does it mean that there is a great chance that it will rain today? )
c. To answer the question above, we need to know the concept of probability.
In the question above, the chance that it will rain today is 75%. Using a number line ranging from 0 to 1,
we can locate 75%.
Based on the number line, we can say that the event that it will rain today is most likely to happen
because the number is closer to 1 or 100%.
The event is unlikely to happen when its probability is closer to 0. It also means that there is only a
small chance that it will happen. Like it will rain during hot season.
The most likely to happen an event is, the closer its probability to 1, It is not always, but it will probably
happen. Like you are going to school during weekdays.
d. Processing Activities
Let them answer the drill questions.
e. Reinforcing the Concept and Skill
Group Activity.
Let them answer the probability description through shapes in the box.
f. Summarizing the Lesson
Lead the pupils to give the following generalization by asking:
What is probability and its importance to real-life situations?

IV. Evaluation: Use probability description (most likely, most unlikely, as likely as unlikely, certain,
likely)
1. It is ______________________ that the New Year’s Day is on the first day of January.
2. Today is Monday and it is _______________________ that tomorrow will be Wednesday.
3. It is ______________________ to happen that you will pick king of diamonds out of the four kings in
a deck of cards.
4. In a bag, there are 1 strawberry candy and 3 chocolate candies. It is ________________________ to
happen that you will get 1 chocolate candy in the bag.
5. It is _____________________ that the dog can fly high.
