DLP With VMC Integration

1. The document outlines a detailed lesson plan for a 10th grade science class on the internal structure of the Earth. 2. Students will work in groups to draw and label the different layers of the Earth, then present their findings. A video will also show the layers and their properties. 3. Through a concept map activity, students will compare and contrast the three main layers of the Earth. They will then illustrate and label the layers on a worksheet.

DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

(S Y 2022 – 2023)

Name of Teacher JANNET A. FUENTES Grade Level 10

Teaching Date/s October 18, 2022 Section/s EARTH & VENUS
Time 1:00 PM-2:20 PM; 2:20 PM-3:40 PM Quarter/Semester 1
Describe the internal structure of the Earth.
LEARNING COMPETENCY
(S9ES-la-j-36.4)
I – OBJECTIVES: Provided with varied learning activities, the learners with 75 % accuracy will be able to:
A. Knowledge 1. Describe the properties of the layers of the earth.
B. Skills 2. Illustrate and label the composition of the layers of the earth.
3. Work collaboratively with peers.
4. Display oneness in performing a group task/activity.
C. Attitude/ Values
5. Show thankfulness to the Divine Creator for all the natural wonders we enjoy here in the
Planet Earth.
II. CONTENT Internal structure of the earth
a. Reference/s and Learner's Manual, Teacher's Guide, activity guide,
Materials Needed activity sheet templates
III. PROCEDURE
A. Awareness Recap about the previous lesson

The teacher randomly asks students these questions, “How many layers is the Earth made
of? What are they?”

Follow up question as springboard to the new lesson

Do you think it is possible to dig your way through the ground to the other side of the
Earth? Why or why not?

Note: The teacher encourages maximum student participation and open sharing of
ideas/opinions.
B. Activity Groupwork

The students will be given enough time working in groups with assigned task. Each group
picks a meta card with which written on it is a specific layer of the earth to which they will
draw in a ¼ size white cartolina (previously required of them), with brief description of it
below the drawing as to its structure, composition, and/or properties. Once done, they are
to post their respective group outputs to designated posting areas for the gallery walk.

Gallery walks

The groups will take turns in viewing their outputs, seeing to it that they take note of the
important details regarding each layer of the earth. They may add if there are lacking
information.
C. Analysis Presentation

One representative from every group will present/discuss their observations from the
gallery walk. (Note: The teacher reminds the class to be sensitive enough in giving critics to
their classmates’ work, that which are constructive only and there should be no bullying.)
Random sharing

The students share their ideas about the answers to the following questions:
1. How do you feel after the activity?
2. What element is the most abundant in the Earth’s crust?
3. What elements make up most of the mantle?
4. How did scientists come to know that the outer core is liquid?
5. What materials make up the inner core?
6. Is the inner core solid, liquid, or gas? What keeps it in this phase?
7. Compare the inner core and the outer core.
Video Clip Presentation

A video clip presentation will be presented to the class showing the different layers of the
earth and their functions.
D. Abstraction
Guide Questions:
1. For you, what is the most important layer of the earth? Why?
2. Ten million years from now, do think there will be changes in the layers of the earth?
Cite a few changes.
Students will be asked to bring out their art materials and draw/make a concept map
comparing/contrasting the three layers of the earth. They will be reminded to keep things
E. Application back to order and clean their workspace after the activity.

Note: Rubrics will be used to assess their concept map.

IV. EVALUATION/ The teacher will distribute activity sheet template to each student. They are to illustrate in
ASSESSMENT it the layers of the earth and label their composition. On the bottom part of the activity
sheet, they are to write/express their answer to the question, “How do you show value to
the Planet as God’s second most precious gift to humans next to life?”

Note: Rubrics will be used to assess their outputs.

V. ASSIGNMENT Utilizing indigenous materials like leaves, twigs, egg shells, etc., let the students design
their own planet using the concept of the Earth’s layers to invent a planet of their own.
They may have the option to do this in pairs or trios.
