Chancellor of Universities of Kamataka Reg.
Ref ; Letter no, LAW/81/KLM/2017, dated : 12-07-2017 of Principal
Secretary Law Department, Bengaluru.
Adverting to the above subject matter, it is hereby notified that, the
Amendments to Regulations Governing 5 year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) has been assented
by His Excellency the Governor and Chancellor of Universities of Karnataka.
The above Regulation has been communicated to this office by the Principal
Secretary, Law Department, Bengaluru through letter cited under reference above.
The above Amended Regulation has come into effect from the date of
communication by the Government i.e. from 12-07-2017.

15, PROMOTIN
i) A students who has completed all the courses
prescribed for the two semesters in an academic year
by securing not less than forty percent of the marks
in each of the courses shall be eligible to pursue his

fourth year although he has not successfully
completed three out of all the courses prescribed
for the study for the third year provided he has
successfully completed all the courses prescribed
for the second year of the programme;
d) Permit a student to pursue the programme on the
fifth year although he has not successfully
completed three out of all the courses prescribed
for study for the fourth year provided he has
successfully completed all the courses prescribedfor the third year of the programme,
©) A student who does not secure a minimum of 40%
in any courses be decaled as failed.
f) Students who have failed in a courses may be
permitted to repeat the following end of semester
examination provided he or she makes an
application to the Principal of the college within
the date prescribed by the University by paying
required fees.
iii) The University shall permit a student to improve his
score in any semester when he has secured a
minimum of 40% marks in each of the courses.
| iv) Notwithstanding the foregoing, the University may
permit a student who has carried forward not more
than three courses from any or all of the previous
semesters to continue in the programme provided he
| successfully completed those courses by the time the
final results of the Five Year B.A.,LL.B.(Hons.)
programme are announced.
¥) Student who has filled the exam form by paying
prescribed fee but remained absent in the exam shall
only be permitted to appear in those subjects along
with subsequent semester examination.

15-A, Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
i. Credit: A unit by which the course work is
measured. It determines the number of hours of
instructions required per week. Each course
prescribed shall be for 5 credits.
Grade Point: It is a numerical weight allotted

iii, Credit Point: It is the product of grade point
and number of credits for a course.
Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA): Itis
measure of performance of work done in a
semester. It is ratio of total credit points secured
bya student in various courses prescribed ina
semester and the total course credits taken
during that semester. It shall be expressed up to
two decimal places. A student shall secure a
‘minimum Semester Grade Point Average
(SGPA) =4 in each semester with a minimum
letter grade of °C” in each subject.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): It
is a measure of overall cumulative performance
of. student over all semesters. The CGPA is
the ratio of total credit points secured by a
student in various courses in all semesters and
the sum of the total credits of all courses in allsemesters. It shall be expressed up to two
decimal places. At the end of all semesters a
student shall secure a minimum Cumulative
Grade Point Average (CGPA) =5
16. Award of Degree,
A student shall be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of
Arts and Bachelor of Laws (ons. (B.A.,LL.B.(Hons,))
degree after he/she has successfully completed all the
Prescribed courses in all the semesters and has secured a
Runimum of 50% in the ageregate. Provided his or her
character and conduct are found to be satisfactory during
the course,
16. Award of Degree.
A student shall be eligible for the award of the
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
(B.A,LL.B.(Hons)) degree after he/she hg
Successfully completed all the prescribed courses in all
the semesters (securing SGPA =4) and has secured a
minimum of 50% in the aggregate (securing CGPA=5),
Provided his or her character and conduct are found to
be satisfactory during the course,

17. Award of Classes.
‘The ward of classes shall be as under:
a) 70% and more: First Class with Distinction
b) 60% and above but less than 70%: First Class.
©) 50% and above but less than 60%: Second Class.
17. Award of Grades.
A) Award of grades shall be as under:
a) CGPA=5.00 and<5.50: B
- Pass
CGPA> 5.50 and < 6.00 : Bt
- Good
CGPA 26.00 and <6.50: A
- Very Good
CGPA 26.50 and <7.00 : A+
- Excellent
CGPA >7.
- Outstanding

B) The marks secured in Add-on Courses and marks
awarded by way of internal assessment in any courses
‘The Board of Studies

shall not be considered to compute SGPA and CGPA18. General

course or courses in the concerned semester
examinations, though permitted to pursue his studies in
the next higher class, shall forfeit his studentship if he or
