M.A Reflection Paper
M.A Reflection Paper
I do believe that as human being, it is our responsibility to seek learning and be engaged into something
that will provide us personal improvement to be able to prove the essence of our existence. As an
educator, the best way to promote education and impart knowledge to learners is by showing them how
we do it on our own self, and it can only be seen when we get into a personal career development. And so,
I took a leap of faith and enrolled in a graduate school.
Everything started from the moment I realized that stepping up into the next level of my career isn’t an
option for me anymore but a need instead. My undergraduate course is Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration Major in Financial Management so I decided to take Master of Business Administration to
open more doors for my career, set myself up for success in my future and gain more expertise in my
chosen field. Fortunately, my Alma Mater opened an opportunity for someone like me who wanted to
pursue this dream, and with positive mind and a circle of hope I enrolled in Alfelor Sr. Memorial College.
I am one of those who took the challenge of taking a master’s program in the midst of pandemic and grab
the chance of getting it’s benefit on the other hand. My learning experience was a roller coaster ride,
making a way on how to balance my work and school at the same time isn’t a big struggle for me since I
was able to finished my bachelor’s degree as a working student, but I can attest that graduate school is a
different one. There are lots of difficulties along the way since it all happened in the times when the
learning process is being done in a new normal way. There’s always an issue in the internet connectivity
and power interruption, in addition I should have to remind myself that time-management is my greatest
companion. It was never easy, but I know that it is just a short-term sacrifice for a long-term gain and
besides I enjoyed the learning experience - listening to my classmates when they are reporting, answering
their prepared assessment online via google forms and of course preparing my own topic/report to
discuss, all of these to be honest had been part of my biggest struggles but a rewarding experience while
taking my master’s program.
In my subject Managerial Accounting, I was able to learn more terminologies I haven’t heard before
during my undergraduate days and even in my field of work as a teacher in Senior High School
Department. Learning more things about this subject is a confidence builder for me.
All of these gains, I owe to the people who trusted my abilities, those who lifted me up during the time I
wasn’t sure of my capability. The support I have from my family and friends, teachers and classmate and
the people who unselfishly lend their help has made each day possible since day one because of them and
above all, our main source of life, faith and hope, our Father in Heaven.
Working hard and maintaining a work-life balance, or a work-school balance, was difficult thou I am
used to it because I was able to finish my bachelor’s degree as a working student. Although it was really a
struggle, I know I was preparing myself for the future by doing the best I could in finding more ways on
how to improve myself and develop a career growth. A year of late-night sleeps and early morning
preparations for a day class was made in exchange for a greater opportunity in the future.
Classes in graduate school differ from those taken in the undergraduates. There are more conversational
and discussion-based learning experience that will provide an opportunity to read, pick up new
information, and immerse in the theoretical side of higher education.
I was just beginning my master’s degree in Business Administration; my undergraduate course is
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Financial Management from the same school
where I am taking my master’s program now. I am thankful to the management of Alfelor Sr. Memorial
College for opening a door of opportunity for us to enroll in this course. And of course, to the University
of North Eastern Philippines in Iriga City for making it possible.
In class, I learned a lot about Marketing Management and what it takes to be a successful business
partner. For example, in one of my subjects under Doctor Shirley M. Galvez, in Advanced Marketing
Management I was able to apply the learnings I gained and impart the same knowledge to my students
in preparing their business plan using various analyses such as market, competitor and situation
analysis. These opportunities are good enough to overcome the struggles and difficulties I have
experienced while taking my master’s degree. Another big part of the program was learning with
others from different places and gaining knowledge from their personal thoughts and point of views
through there reports and assessments.
As a business student and a Senior High School teacher, I was really intrigued by how I could
practically develop my management skills. All of the information I learned in these classes prepared
me for the future in which I plan on stepping up into the next level of my career as an educator and
possibly a businessman.
I was actually uncertain when I started my first step in turning this plan into reality, there is actually a sort
of feeling quite nervous. I wasn't sure what to anticipate. I wasn't sure whether I could pull it off. Thanks
to the encouragement of my peers, family, and friends, as well as by maintaining my trust in God. I was
able to surpass the circumstances because of my support-system and the dependable inner self.
Being a Harry Potter Fan, should I say a Potterhead. I would like to end this with one of my favorite
quotes from the movie Harry Potter in the Order of the Phoenix, “Working hard is important but there is
something that matters even more: Believing in yourself.
