Text: Importance and value of trees
o
1-Since the beginning, trees have furnished us with two of life’s essentials: food and oxygen.
tc
They also provide additional necessities such as shelters, medicine, and tools. Today, their value
continues to increase and more benefits of trees are being discovered. Trees increase our quality
of life by bringing natural elements. We gather under the cool shade they provide during
se
outdoor activities with family and friends. In cities, trees deflect the sunlight and reduce the
heat caused by pavement and commercial buildings or industries.
2-Trees contribute a lot to the environment of human beings by providing oxygen, improving
e
air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife.
uv
During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we
breathe. Trees also filter air by removing dust and absorbing other pollutants like carbon
monoxide. Apart from influencing wind speed and direction, trees also shield us from downfall
of rain. Trees also lower the air temperature and reduce the heat intensity of the greenhouse
re
effect by maintaining low level of carbon dioxide.
3-Many animals, including elephants and giraffes, use leaves as food. Flowers are eaten by
ep
monkeys, birds, bats and many insects. Animals also eat much of the same fruits that we enjoy.
Of course, hundreds of living creatures call trees their homes because leaf-covered branches
keep many animals such as monkeys and gorillas, birds and squirrels, out of the reach of
predators.
