1 Overview
8018 DeskPhone is an entry-level phone intended to be connected to an OmniPCX Enterprise or OmniPCX
Office RCE systems.

The terminal is provided with a wired handset. The package reference is 3MG27201AA.

This document is the Technical Release Note for 8018 DeskPhone R100:

 In some cases, after DTMF is sent by the terminal, continuous ring back tone can be
heard
 There is no difference between internal ringing tone cadence and external ringing

 Depending on the melody choice, some ringing tones are not correctly played
 On activation/deactivation, the LEDs may take up to 3 seconds to light on/off
o OmniPCX Enterprise context:
 During a conference call, if nobody is speaking, there is no comfort noise generated
 On activation/deactivation, the LEDs may take up to 3 seconds to light on/off

2.1 OmniPCX Enterprise
The software version of 8018 DeskPhone is included in OmniPCX Enterprise software, which can be
downloaded from the Enterprise Business Portal:

2.3 Hints for installation, migration or upgrade

Warning In OmniPCX Office context, the minimum required version is R10.3. The 8018 DeskPhone terminal will not
work correctly with R10.0, R10.1, R10.2 releases.

6 New Features
6.1 New features in 4.81.21
Feature Description
NOE/SIP switch SIP version will be released in R210. The switch is possible only after SIP
version is released. 8018 and 80x8ee sets are working in NOE mode from
manufactory (out-of-box). While some customers may deploy the sets to work in
SIP mode. Since v4.81.21, the sets have the capacity to be switched from NOE
mode to SIP mode. And the switching can be managed by locally and centralized.
Notice: this is NOT the SIP survivability feature which supposed to be in R210
content not available in R100.
OpenSSL Previously, the 8018 set is using openSSL 1.0.1h, with known poodle vulnerability
in this version and this version will be obsolete soon. Since v4.81.21, the 8018
upgraded to the latest openSSL version 1.0.2h, improved security aspect.
Wideband G722 Previously, only narrow band supported (G 711.a / G711.u / G729). Since
v4.81.21, wideband G722 is supported which improved speech quality due to a
wider speech bandwidth of 50–7000 Hz compared to narrowband speech coders
like G.711 which in general are optimized for POTS wireline quality of 300–3400
Hz.

[Restriction] Sometimes some light echo can be heard using Plantronics


HW251N or HW261N or HW510 or HW520.

[Restriction] Using Plantronics C325.1, the volume control button local to


the headset does not work. The headset volume must be controlled on
the terminal.

7.2.1 OmniPCX Office


R100 4.81.60 version of 8018 DeskPhone is delivered with the following restrictions in OXO context.

Flemish, French, French Canada, French Swiss, German, German Austria, German
Swiss, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Italian Swiss, Japanese, Korean,
Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese Brazil, Romanian,
Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Taiwanese, Thai, Turkish,
Valencian.
Codec Narrow band (G 711.a / G711.u / G729).
Wideband G722 available since 4.81.21. (In OXO R10.3, G722 option of 8018 is
hidden; need to be opened for that option. No such limitation in OXO R10.2
because 8018 is considered as 8028 phone in R10.2, in which profile G722 is the
default codec.)
Notice: G723 is NOT supported.
Troubleshooting ssh
Dial By Name Quick search not supported with R100. Would be supported with R200.
Voice recorder Voice recording does not work with an external voice recorder (This restriction
removed from 4.81.51 and later version.  unfortunately, there is regression
found in 4.81.51. We rollback the feature in 4.81.60.So the restriction is still
valid).
Characters inputs Non defaults characters like ä, ã, ç, any accent, cannot be entered.
Headset The detection of the headset plug can take up to 5 seconds; the detection of the
headset unplug can take up to 3 seconds.
Headset Some very rare cases have been reported about terminal reset when dialing a
number and a headset is connected.
NOE/SIP switch SIP version will be released in R210. The switch is possible only after SIP
version is released. The phone must be “out-of-box” mode to remove all the
server information. Otherwise the phone will reject to perform the switch (from
4.81.40 and later version, there is no such restriction.).

Webapp Web Application. Generic name used to designate any application running on
8018 DeskPhone and providing interaction with the end user (for example the
application managing communications which presents telephony features of
the 8018 DeskPhone is a webapp, the application configuring alarms is a
webapp, etc). There are two types of webapps: a native webapp is designed
by ALE and integrated in the main software distribution. An external or third
party webapp is designed, built and distributed by external developers in
accordance with SDK and certification process.
